Apart from the food stalls dotted along the busy streets of Chinatown, a dynamic and innovative space dedicated to driving social change has emerged in Singapore: 64 Club Street.

This recent addition to the district officially opened on Sept. 11, to foster creativity and community engagement among Singaporean youth. This initiative is made possible with the generous support of the JL Family Office.

Within this social impact hub, you can find a charming café run by Foreword Coffee Roasters, an establishment that provides employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities, special needs, and mental health conditions.

For the uninitiated, 64 Club Street was once home to the Pondok Peranakan Gelam Club, which is a community of Bawean Malays who lived there in the 1930s. In honour of its rich history, local artists worked together to paint the building’s façade, while the interior is decorated with bright murals that merge elements of the past and present.

The second floor was built for communal areas, event spaces, and meeting rooms, fostering a sense of community and collaboration.

On the other hand, the third floor is a quiet haven ideal for private counseling sessions and peaceful meditation.

To further its mission of empowering young people, the social hub plans to host several events, workshops, and other programs. At the forefront is "ProjectME (Mindful Empowerment): The Youth Empowerment Edition," slated for October 2023, featuring four local social service organisations.
