The House of Tan Yeok Nee, Singapore’s last standing traditional Teochew mansion, has been reborn as a heritagelifestyle hub, and it’s nothing short of spectacular.

Originally built in 1885 by Teochew merchant Tan Yeok Nee, the mansion is a gazetted national monument and one of the few surviving examples of Southern Chinese architecture in Singapore. After years of limited public access, the house has undergone a sensitive restoration and now welcomes visitors into a space that blends cultural reverence with contemporary elegance.

The reopening marks a new chapter for the mansion, which now houses curated lifestyle experiences, wellness programs, and fine dining. At the heart of this transformation is Loca Niru, a modern Japanese-French restaurant helmed by Chef Shusuke Kubota that’s opening its doors this November 2025.

The restaurant’s philosophy, rooted in Zen idioms and the Japanese concept of kotan (quiet simplicity), echoes the mansion’s own spirit of harmony and restraint. Guests dine beneath preserved wooden trusses, surrounded by Teochew carvings and Japanese craftsmanship, in a space that feels both timeless and transcendent.

Potato Head Launches Homeware Range Made From Purposeful Waste

Desa Potato Head, Bali’s beloved creative resort, just launched a homeware range made and reimagined from various forms of discard, ultimately reshaping our relationship with waste through inventive designs.

In collaboration with British designer Max Lamb, the Collection 001 of WASTED by Potato Head reimagines waste into purposeful objects. It comprises eight distinct material families, each derived from a specific local waste stream, including recycled HDPE plastics, natural dyes made from composted organic matter, retired hotel linens, broken glass repurposed through mouth-blown techniques, used cooking oil transformed into refillable candles, salvaged ceramics given new form, composite waste materials such as Styrofoam and oyster shells, and sustainably harvested, hand-woven Balinese bamboo.

Collection 001 remains rooted in Potato Head’s philosophy of “Good Times, Do Good” and reflects a lifestyle grounded in the nourishment of nature and the progression of culture. Built on years of in-house research and development, the collection represents a circular design system that redefines how materials are sourced, made, and valued.

The craftsmen made use of a variety of methods, such as natural dyeing with marigold and indigo, ceramic glazing, plastic casting, traditional weaving, and glassblowing, in order to reveal the raw integrity of each material. From marbled plastic chairs and refillable candles to hand-shaped ceramics and bamboo lounge seating, these objects are more than just a homeware range but a manifesto for conscious living, proving that design can be both beautiful and regenerative.

“Designers have a responsibility to justify every product we bring into the world,” said Max Lamb. “With WASTED, we’re not just rethinking materials, we’re celebrating the human hands and knowledge that shape them.”

Singapore’s leading property marketplace just unveiled a stylish new statement piece in celebration of SG60.

PropertyGuru has launched a limited-edition reversible jacket in collaboration with iconic Singaporean streetwear designer Mark Ong, also known as Mr. Sabotage.

The jacket draws on the aesthetic of the classic souvenir jacket and is meant to shine a spotlight on the local property agents who are quietly shaping the way people find comfort, belonging, and a sense of home.

The jacket is inspired by SG60’s national theme, “Building Our Singapore Together,” reflecting the duality of property agents who balance the demands of their profession with a deep commitment to the local community.

“This collaboration reflects how PropertyGuru sees Singapore, built not just on physical foundations but on stories,” said Sivaram Parameswaran, Marketing Director, PropertyGuru Singapore.

“While this jacket was inspired by property agents, it speaks to something many Singaporeans understand. There is a constant duality, balancing who we are with what we do, contributing to something larger while staying true to ourselves. This piece honors that spirit and reflects the Singapore that PropertyGuru is proud to call home.”

The limited-edition piece embodies reversible design with bold embroidery and layered storytelling, mirroring modern Singapore and the everyday journeys of Singaporeans. On one side, a tailored gray pinstripe evokes professionalism, discipline, and the nation’s quiet dedication, while on the flip side, the bold red color celebrates individuality and culture.

Also embroidered on its back is a heartland community cat stepping out from the windows of a Peranakan shophouse, symbolizing shared spaces, warmth, and heritage. Beneath its paws is an embroidered outline of Singapore, while the phrase “Orchid City” also sits alongside a bloom of the Vanda Miss Joaquim, a flower that blooms year-round, capturing the strength and multicultural spirit of the nation. In classic Sabotage style, the thread’s tension set is slightly loose, creating subtle imperfections that add depth and character to the piece.

Together, both sides form a layered portrait of modern Singapore, reflecting the professional and personal sides.

“Creating this piece was personal,” said Mark Ong. “PropertyGuru and I both started here in Singapore. Collaborating on something that honours the people who help shape this country, especially those who do it quietly, like property agents, felt meaningful. This jacket is for the agents who inspired it, and for every Singaporean who puts heart into building something greater than themselves.”

Hands Design

Hands Design turns common woodwork into extraordinary art pieces by mixing them with resin. The head of the family business, Uncle Ray, was in the stained-glass industry for many years until he came across resin art on YouTube, which sparked his interest in the medium. He went on a training program in Washington and upon returning to Singapore, also learned woodworking.

They sell a variety of gorgeous wooden pieces from coffee tables and resin dishes to phone stands and charcuterie boards. You can check their creations online or message them for a custom piece. Hands Designs also holds workshop sessions for as low as S$90, which already allows you to create your own Resin tumblers!

Live Nation to Break Ground on a New Entertainment Venue in Singapore

There's no denying that the year 2024 has been a monumental era for live concerts and events — from K-Pop groups taking the stage for their tours to Taylor Swift’s historic “Eras Tour.” Riding this tidal wave of concerts, Live Nation Entertainment, one of the world’s leading live entertainment companies, has announced the launch of its first live music venue in Southeast Asia.

In a press release, the company unveiled that the venue will be built along Grange Road in Singapore, in partnership with Lendlease Global Commercial REIT and supported by the Singapore Tourism Board.

The venue will house a state-of-the-art music hall with a total capacity of 3,000 and will feature various rooms and stages dedicated to local and international touring artists. There will also be a café and bar, which can also accommodate smaller events.

Aside from concerts, the new establishment is also expected to host a variety of business and cultural activities, including meetings, conferences, exhibitions, and community events, among others.

As of this writing, there is no information yet on the venue’s exact opening date.

“Live Nation is pleased to expand the live music market in Singapore with the new venue,” said Greg Gillin, Senior Vice President of Venue Development at Live Nation Asia, in the press statement.

Deepavali, the festival of lights, is coming! To celebrate this vibrant occasion, why not brighten up to your home with new and aesthetic homeware and decor?

IKEA, the Swedish furniture maker, is joining in on the celebration with its AROMATISK collection, which features a range of items inspired by the traditional Indian arts and crafts — perfect for honoring the Deepavali season.

The collection features patterned fabrics and vibrant serving dishes that will make family gatherings more fun. This includes the AROMATISK serving bowl, which comes in blue (S$17.90) and glass pink (S$25.10).

Meanwhile, the AROMATISK tealight holder set (S$13.40), which comes in blue, yellow, and pink, is perfect for holding and prettifying your tealight candles. There’s also a wave-shaped version (S$4.90), which creates a patterned illusion when lit.

To decorate your furniture, the collection also has the AROMATISK throw (S$26.90) which comes in a warm and festive color to make your home look more inviting. This is perfectly complemented by the AROMATISK cushion cover in green (S$8.90), printed with lotus flowers and leaves to add more fresh aesthetic to your living room.

Looking for something new to refurbish your home with? Swedish brand IKEA in Singapore has something for you! This fall, the furniture maker is launching two new collections that will elevate your living space: BRÄNNBOLL and MÄVINN.

If you love gaming in style, the BRÄNNBOLL collection offers a colorful take on your home setup with its vibrant furniture and decor. This includes the BRÄNNBOLL gaming lounge chair in knisa bright blue (S$249), a comfortable cushioned, foldable lounge chair that you can move around, thanks to its castor wheels.

To refresh your entire setup, the BRÄNNBOLL gaming station (S$399) is a perfect buy. This closet-like station can hold all your gear, including your chair – perfect for saving space and avoiding clutter.

The collection also includes a bright green gaming bolster (S$19.90), a soft cylinder-shaped pillow designed to support your arms or legs while gaming; a gaming mouse pad (S$19.90) that can accommodate both your keyboard and mouse and is equipped with a rubber-covered underside for a non-slip feature; and a wall-mounted display cabinet (S$34.90) where you can showcase your most precious figurines or gaming items.

Meanwhile, the MÄVINN collection will add a whimsical touch to your home. Made in partnership with social businesses, this collection celebrates local craftsmanship as they are woven, braided, or embroidered by hand by women and marginalized groups.

Cat and Halloween lovers alike are guaranteed to enjoy this collection, as most of its pieces feature a black cat, including the MÄVINN basket (S$24.90), which is perfect for storing things or as a cozy place for your cat to lay on. There’s also the cat-patterned MÄVINN cushion cover (S$26.90), the MÄVINN runner (S$59) embroidered carpet, and the cute MÄVINN pouch (S$7.50) for storing small things at home or on the go, among others.

Aside from cat-inspired items, the collection also has pieces that will make your home more inviting, such as the flower-shaped MÄVINN rug (S$39.90) and the striped multicolor fabric MÄVINN throw (S$23.90).
