Pet-Friendly Shakes You Can DIY to Keep Your Furbabies Cool this Summer

Pet Friendly Shakes to Keep Your Furbabies Cool This Summer 01

The summer season is here and it’s more intense compared to the last few years. With the heat index reaching (if not surpassing) 40 degrees in other areas, finding something to keep our furbabies cool is a must.

Unlike humans, our pets can’t sweat through their skin which makes them prone to heat stroke. Aside from providing cooling pads and fans, trimming their furs, and giving them cold water, you can try making yummy and healthy fruit shakes for them.

If you’re wondering if your pets can have smoothies, here’s a quick answer: Yes! But make sure that they do not contain dairy and other unsafe ingredients and give them in moderation. Aside from keeping them cool, smoothies can help them stay hydrated. Plus, it’s a healthy treat!

Banana Peanut Butter Smoothie

Banana

Let’s start with the most basic ingredients you can most probably find at home: Banana! A well-loved fruit by many dogs, bananas are an excellent source of potassium and vitamins A, B1, B6, and C. Simply put, they are good for your pup’s immune system, reproductive system, eyesight, and body growth.

To make it even tastier, here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 Large Ripe Banana
  • 1 Teaspoon Peanut Butter
  • 200 ml Unsweetened Milk

Add all ingredients to your blender and blitz until smooth (be sure to remove the banana peel since they are difficult to digest). Pour directly into your dog’s bowl with ice or put inside the fridge for a couple of minutes to chill and serve.

Strawberry Banana Smoothie

Strawberry

Loaded with antioxidants and probiotics, the Strawberry Banana smoothie recipe can help boost your pet’s immune system and gut health. Apart from the benefits of bananas mentioned above, strawberries offer vitamin K, iodine, magnesium, and folic acid.

Here’s the list of your needed ingredients:

  • 2 Cups of Fresh Strawberries or 16-ounce Bag of Frozen Strawberries
  • 1 and ½ Cups of Greek Low-Fat Yogurt
  • 1 Banana
  • ¼ Cup Skim Milk
  • 3 Tablespoons Honey

Start by cutting up the fruits into small chunks. Then, add everything to the blender and buzz them for a minute or two. Chill them in the fridge, freeze them in ice cube trays, or pour in a popsicle molder to serve.

Mango Coconut Smoothie

Mango

Beat the heat with some tropical drink! Mangoes contain dietary fiber, beta-carotene, antioxidants, and potassium. They help lower cholesterol levels, boost the immune system, and improve eyesight and digestive system – but be sure to serve in moderation.

To start, prepare the following:

  • 1 Medium-Sized Yellow Mango
  • 1 Tablespoon Yogurt
  • ½ Cup Coconut Milk
  • 1 Teaspoon Honey (Optional)

Next, chop the mango into little cubes and make sure to remove the peel and seed before putting it in the blender, along with the other ingredients. Blend until all mixed and slushy – you can add crushed ice to make it even better and enjoyable for your four-legged friends!

Apple Banana Smoothie

Apple

Yup, bananas again! But this time, it’s blended with apples that have soluble fibers that help in absorbing water, help prevent constipation, and promote a healthy weight – perfect for rehydration and staying chill during the peak summer hours.

Here’s what you’ll need to make it:

  • 1 Large Apple
  • 1 Cup /220 ml Cold Water
  • ½ Banana

Same steps for this one! Slice your apple and dice your banana. Then, put everything in the blender and buzz them with the cold water until smooth. Serve immediately for a colder treat!

Watermelon Banana Smoothie

Watermelon

Same with apples, a watermelon is good for hydration and digestion. It is also packed with vitamins and minerals to keep our furry friends healthy! Mixed with bananas, they make a yummier treat.

To make one, here’s the ingredients list:

  • 2 Cups/300g of Watermelon
  • 1 Medium-Sized Banana
  • 1 Cup/220ml of Coconut Water

Chop the watermelon and remove the seed and skin. After that, peel and dice the banana. Then add everything to your blender and blitz until smooth. Of course, you can chill them in the fridge for a while before serving!
