7 Wonderful Animal Farms, Zoos in KL, Selangor for a Family Day Out

If you're looking for a fun and educational activity to do with your kids during the school holidays, why not consider visiting one of the many animal farms in KL and Selangor? Not only will your kids learn about various animals, but they'll also interact with them and even feed them!

From little petting zoos where you may pet cute animals to huge wildlife parks featuring some of the world's most amazing animals, Malaysia has many animal-related fun and learning options.

Here are seven animal farms you can check out.

Zoo Negara Malaysia

The Zoo Negara in Malaysia is one of the most well-known animal parks and home to a wide range of animals. It covers 110 acres and has more than 5,000 animals, representing 476 species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish.

The open-concept zoo, which is run by the Malaysian Zoological Society, a non-governmental organisation, includes large exhibits made to resemble the animals' natural habitats. These include a Giant Panda Conservation Center, a reptile house, an aviary, and a mammal kingdom, among other things. Plus, there are adoption packages available so that guests can make a real difference in the lives of the animals housed there. Throughout the day, there are educational programmes and shows.

Sunway Lagoon Wildlife Park

Although Sunway Lagoon is most known for its water park, the wildlife area there is as interesting to visit. There are about 150 different species of animals living there, including the majestic white lion, an endangered sun bear, and a beautiful blue-eyed white tiger. Shows with birds and other animals are also featured. In addition to its thrilling animal performances and walk-through displays, the zoo features a petting zoo where visitors can purchase animal food kits to feed the tame animals.

Kuala Lumpur Deer Park

As the name suggests, Kuala Lumpur Deer Park is a park dedicated to different deer species. Located in the heart of the city, the zoo lets kids observe and feed the deer in their natural habitat. The park also has other animals, such as peacocks and rabbits. 

Among the various species, the mousedeer is the primary draw to the park. You can also spot axis deer, sambar deer, and the fallow deer from Holland in the park. If you want to know more about these incredible animals, feel free to ask any questions from the park's caretakers.

Farm in the City

Farm in the City, situated in Seri Kembangan, is a one-of-a-kind attraction that combines a petting zoo and a conservation park. In addition to learning about conservation initiatives for endangered creatures in the conservation park, children can engage with various animals in the petting zoo, including rabbits, guinea pigs, and tortoises. Visitors can also take pictures of the animals as mementos. Friendly rangers can be found all over the farm and are happy to answer your child's questions about the animals there and the importance of protecting nature.

IOI City Farm

A recent addition to the enormous IOI City mall, IOI City Farm brings the petting zoo indoors. Three distinct areas covering 18,000 square feet make up the "indoor living world" on the second floor, where visitors can see and even feed more than 70 types of plants, small animals, and fish. Children can ask questions and get answers from a dedicated staff of zoologists, aquarists, and botanists.

Aquaria KLCC

Visitors interested in marine life should check out Aquaria KLCC, situated below the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. At 6,000 square feet in size, this top-tier oceanarium features 5,000 different marine and terrestrial species. It houses exotic species like the green sea turtles, sand tiger sharks, and gigantic groupers. There is even a touch area where curious guests may stick their fingers into a pool of horseshoe crabs or brown-banded bamboo sharks, while learning interesting things about these cuddly aquatic critters!

G2G Animal Garden

On the outskirts of Selangor is the G2G Animal Garden, another kid-friendly petting zoo.
