Chinese New Year in Thailand to Generate THB21.2 Billion in Revenue
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) said on Thursday, Jan. 19, that it is expecting to generate around THB21.2 billion in tourism revenue amid Chinese New Year festivities.
According to TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn, about 588,900 foreign tourists will arrive in Thailand until Jan. 27, which is 1,622% higher than last year.
The TAT said that most international visitors who will celebrate CNY in Thailand will come from Malaysia, Vietnam, and South Korea.
About 29,400 Chinese tourists are also coming to the Land of Smiles, a surge of 3,738% from the same period in 2022.
Foreign tourists are estimated to bring about THB16.6 billion, while Thai locals coming in and out of the country are expected to generate the remaining THB4.6 billion.
To address the large crowds and heavy traffic this month, the Thai government launched free shuttle services between Hua Lam Pong Station and Krung Thep Aphiwat Station.
