Gov’t Approves Higher Rebate for Foreign Film Productions in Thailand
The Thai government has approved to give higher tax breaks for foreign film productions in the country to further increase filming activities, which will promote Thai culture and destinations to the world.
Government spokesperson Traisuree Taisaranakul said the cabinet made the decision on Feb. 7 to modify the current tax incentives, which are at 15% cash rebate for every THB50 million spent.
The rebate will now increase to 20% for every THB100 million spent in a movie. Film productions can have another 10% rebate if they hire local staff, spotlight Thai culture, and do their shoots in less touristy areas. The cash rebate limit has also been increased to THB150 million.
The increased tax breaks are part of the government’s plan to boost revenue and economic growth, enhance the film industry, and remain competitive in attracting foreign film productions to the country.
