Poor Air Quality Reported in Bangkok; 12 Districts Reach Below Standard

Ministry of Public Health Permanent Secretary Opas Karnkawinpong warns the public as particulate matter (PM) 2.5 pollution is on the rise in Thailand, particularly in Bangkok. This is after air quality dropped to orange levels on Thursday, Oct. 20, according to air quality indexes run by the Pollution Control Department through Air4Thai.

Air4Thai is a website and mobile application where air quality is measured in five levels: excellent (blue), satisfactory (green), moderate (yellow), unhealthy (orange), and very unhealthy (red). Below are the different areas in Bangkok’s 12 districts that dropped to below standard air quality as reported by Thai PBS World:

  • Bang Sue sub-district in Bang Sue district
  • Charan Sanitwong Road in Bang Phlat district
  • Khlong Sam Wa district
  • Khlong Thawee Wattana Road in Thawee Wattana district
  • Lat Krabang Road in Lat Krabang district
  • Ma Charoen Road and Phet Kasem 81 in Nong Kham district
  • Phutthamonthon 1 Road in Taling Chan district
  • Rama III Road in Yan Nawa district
  • Rama IV Road in Pathumwan district
  • Rama IV Road in front of Samyan Mitrtown in Pathumwan district
  • Srinagarind Road in Prawet district
  • Traimit Road in Samphanthawong district

Air quality in Bangkok normally drops during the cold season due to poor air circulation. For protection, it’s best to wear an N95 mask, which is effective against PM 2.5 particles.
