Study: Japan Remains as Top Tourist Destination Among Thais

Japan is the most desired international destination among Thai travellers, according to the Thailand’s Travel Intentions Study 2023 – Outbound Edition study by Visa.

Out of the 2,000 respondents, 81% said they would like to visit Japan soon, followed by South Korea (52%), New Zealand (43%), Singapore (41%), United Kingdom (35%), the United States (33%), Australia (31%), France (29%), Hong Kong (26%), and Italy (23%). The top three considerations for their choices were travel cost (65%), weather (49%), and desire to explore new places (48%).

“The pandemic has created a pent-up demand and energy among Thai travellers to satisfy their hunger for travel after not being able to venture abroad for so long. With more countries reopening their borders, we wanted to take a closer look at how Thai travellers are rediscovering their international destinations and navigating a world of uncertainty,” country manager for Visa Thailand Pipavin Sodprasert said.

The study also revealed that 53% of Thais are planning to travel overseas at least once in 2023, while 31% are planning two trips and 11% with three trips.
