Subsidies for Hong Kong Students at China Universities to Increase

The Education Bureau announced a raise in the Mainland University Study Subsidy Scheme, responsible for assisting eligible Hong Kong students travelling and studying to tertiary Mainland institutions, by 5% to 16% in a press conference on Monday (Nov. 7).

The government is said to have refined a formula for calculating the specific subsidy amounts for each student, including assistance of travelling expenses in the aim to provide more support for Hong Kong students in mainland China.

Means-tested and non-means-tested subsidies to eligible students will be based on the location of their institutions in the mainland and Hong Kong, grouped into three categories: less than 450KM, between 450KM and 1000KM, and above 1000KM.

The bureau said that the subsidy scheme, set to benefit students from the first quarter of 2023, will benefit Hong Kong students studying in the 191 designated institutions.
