Israeli Restaurant FRANCIS Opens New FRANCIS west Space in SoHo

Israeli Restaurant FRANCIS Opens New FRANCIS west Space in So Ho 2

After five years since the opening of FRANCIS in Wan Chai, restaurateur James Ward, chef Asher Goldstein, and sommelier Simone Sammuri are set to open FRANCIS west in SoHo, expanding the dominant Israeli culinary brand.

FRANCIS west on 42 Peel Street, Soho, will focus on the Maghreb region and its fragrance of spices and smoky flavours, from Tunisia, Libya, Algeria, and Morocco. The new restaurant will open to the public from Mar. 23, with FRANCIS east to follow in late 2023, emphasising an all-day concept inspired by the Levant region.

Goldstein drew on his experience crafting contemporary Middle Eastern cuisine at the original FRANCIS to create the new shared dish menu. The menu includes FRANCIS classics of hummus, cigars, smoked carrots, and knafeh, along with new highlights such as Mashwiya Tunisian grilled salad, Spanner Crab with Chraime, the latter a spicy sauce made from tomatoes and paprika, and Lamb Merguez.

Along with the food, the Mediterranean wine selection by Sammuri was sourced exclusively from coastal regions.

Haig Studio's design for the space is inspired by Moroccan courtyards and Spanish tapas bars. Seating can hold up to 38 guests, including four at the bar counter. There is an inviting facade that leads into a bright, airy space with vibrant colour combinations.

The dining space is made to resemble a warm, welcoming neighbourhood hangout vibe like the original FRANCIS.
