MTR Extends 3.8% Fare Rebate Until June 2022

The MTR Corporation will extend the special fare discount until mid-2022 to help passengers weather economic uncertainties in the aftermath of COVID-19.

In an announcement on Nov. 23, the MTR said Octopus or QR code ticket passengers can continue to enjoy a 3.8% rebate for every ride until the end of June 2022. The special fare concession was supposed to lapse on Jan. 2, 2022.

“Though the economy is gradually recovering, we understand that our passengers are still struggling with the economic uncertainties,” said Jeny Yeung, Hong Kong Transport Services Director of the MTR Corporation. “As a Hong Kong-rooted company, MTR with all its staff are dedicated to keep Hong Kong moving, and through the rebate extension aim to show appreciation to our passengers as we move to next year,” Yang added.

The extension will cost the MTR more than HK$200 million, the railway operator said.

The 3.8% rebate applies to all Octopus or QR code ticket users travelling on MTR lines and all Octopus users travelling on Light Rail and MTR buses.
