Muggsy: Giles Pate Solo Exhibition
WOAW Gallery
3 Sun Street, Wan Chai, Hong Kong
Thu, January 9 - Sat, February 8
11:00 AM - 7:00 PM
Free
WOAW Gallery proudly presents Muggsy, a solo exhibition by New York artist Giles Pates, on view from Jan. 9 to Feb. 8, 2025. This heartfelt collection celebrates the communal power of local basketball courts, offering viewers a nostalgic and vibrant exploration of the connections forged in these shared spaces.
Drawing inspiration from NBA legend Muggsy Bogues, known for his determination and spirit, Muggsy captures the universal energy of basketball courts as places of unity, transcending barriers of language, background, and age. At the heart of this exhibition is the artist’s personal story: inspired by his brother-in-law’s experience of finding friendship and belonging on a New York City basketball court after immigrating from Pakistan, Pates brings this powerful memory to life through his evocative paintings.
Through this collection, the artist invites viewers to reflect on the enduring significance of communal spaces, rekindling a sense of unity and connection often experienced in childhood parks and courts.
Marking Giles Pates’ first solo exhibition in Hong Kong, Muggsy is a celebration of community, resilience, and the joy of shared experiences. Don’t miss this moving tribute at WOAW Gallery, Wan Chai.
