M+ Sigg Collection: Inner Worlds

Discover the emotional depth of contemporary Chinese art in M+ Sigg Collection: Inner Worlds, the third major exhibition of the renowned M+ Sigg Collection. Opening in phases from June 27, 2025, with a full unveiling on Aug. 22, this powerful new presentation is housed in the Sigg Galleries on Level 2 of M+.

Following the impactful exhibitions "From Revolution to Globalisation" and "Another Story," "Inner Worlds" delves into the period between the mid-1990s and 2010s, when China’s rapid globalization and economic change reshaped society and artistic expression. This exhibition turns the spotlight on emotional narratives, presenting works from 38 artists, including Fang Lijun, Liu Wei, Zhao Bandi, and Yangjiang Group. These artists use a variety of media and visual languages to convey feelings of joy, doubt, sadness, calm, and wonder, reflecting on personal and national transformations.

The exhibition invites visitors to connect with these artworks on an emotional level, encouraging curiosity and openness. It’s a rare opportunity to experience how Chinese artists engaged with global art discourses while capturing the inner responses to a world in flux.
