Witness the Hong Kong debut of acclaimed contemporary artist Lao Tongli at "The Living Field: Lao Tongli Solo Exhibition," on view from July 2 to Aug. 8, 2026, at INKstudio. Marking the artist’s first solo exhibition in Hong Kong, the presentation offers an in-depth look at more than a decade of artistic exploration through the lens of traditional gongbi heavy-color painting, reimagined in a contemporary context.

The exhibition brings together significant bodies of work from Lao’s career, including "Desire of Libido," "Above the Horizon · Sky," "Self and Other," and "In and Out of the Clouds." Across these series, images of blood vessels, forests, skies, cloud formations, and the human body intersect and evolve, creating a visual language that reflects on ecology, family memory, human existence, and the interconnected nature of life.

Rooted in the landscapes of the Leizhou Peninsula and inspired by observations of both natural and biological systems, Lao combines meticulous line work, mineral pigments, and layered coloring to create richly detailed compositions.
