After a seven-year hiatus, one of Hong Kong's beloved beachside music festivals is making its long-awaited comeback. The Big Picnic returns to Tai Pak Beach inDiscovery Bay on Nov. 21, 2026, bringing more than 24 live acts across two stages, an artisan market, and 11 hours of music to Lantau Island.

Running from 11 AM to 10 PM, the festival marks 20 years since its founding in 2006. And while the name suggests a laid-back afternoon picnic gathering, everyone can expect a full-day event with live music performances, local food and drinks, and much more.

The Tai Pak Stage, set right on the beach, will feature festival favorites and headliners, including Jaywalkers, Helium 3, Murphy and the Lawyers, Samba Latina, Indigo Town, Powerful Moss, MOJO, Don't Panic, Naggin Eejits, Mr Big Stuff, DC Bands, The Unsung Heroes, The Decibels, and the Hong Kong Welsh Male Voice Choir.

Meanwhile, the Chek Lap Kok Stage will serve up an eclectic mix, with performances from The Gurrling, Diamond 6, Funkaphones, U2D2, The Young Bucks, Tetrys, Junior Fireflies, Benzine, and Black Cat Bone.

Beyond the music, festivalgoers can browse an artisan marketplace curated by Handmade Hong Kong, discover locally made goods, and grab refreshments from food and beverage stalls. There's also a beach bar for those looking to enjoy a drink by the water, while a dedicated Kids Zone by Tekkers will keep younger attendees entertained.

Originally launched as Picnic in the Park at Siena Park in 2006, the grassroots gathering began as a way to bring Discovery Bay residents together while championing independent local musicians.

A decade later, in 2016, the event adopted its current name and moved to DB Plaza and Tai Pak Beach. It eventually became an annual community tradition and a platform for emerging artists before its last edition in 2019.

For Carla Acepcion, the festival's Programming and Marketing Director, bringing the event back is particularly meaningful. "Like so many kids raised in Discovery Bay, I grew up with Picnic in the Park," Carla said. "I spent my youth performing on stage and managing these stages, soaking in the music, and learning what it meant to build community through art."

Now, the festival aims to reconnect longtime residents, introduce newcomers to Discovery Bay's creative community, and give local talent another opportunity to shine.
