If there’s one cultural event that has Hong Kong abuzz this spring, it’s the return of The French May Arts Festival (French May) 2025 and the French GourMay Food and Wine Festival 2025 (French GourMay).

French May and French GourMay are more than just an arts and F&B showcase; they are a full-blown celebration of French creativity, taste, and spirit — literally, so secure your ticket, grab a fork, and dive in!

What is French GourMay?

Nothing celebrates French culture quite like its exquisite food and wine. French GourMay is Hong Kong and Macau’s premier festival dedicated entirely to French gastronomy and spirits.

Organized by Business France, this month-long celebration in May brings the finest flavors of France to the heart of Asia, offering unforgettable culinary experiences.

This year's 16th edition is all about French spirits, from Cognac to Calvados. Over 150 partners across restaurants, bars, retailers, and markets are coming together to toast to tradition — and a bit of indulgence.

Throughout May, Michelin-starred restaurants and cozy neighborhood bistros will serve up exclusive French menus. Picture Armagnac-glazed duck, flambéed mains, and Calvados-infused crème brûlée.

This year, French May will be showing delightfully buttery and flaky pastries from French ingredients suppliers: seven distinguished bakeries in Hong Kong and one renowned establishment in Macau.

In France, the digestif — a small but significant drink like Cognac, Chartreuse, or French whiskey — finishes a meal perfectly. If you’re more into cocktails than cuisine and want to lift your spirits, you’ll want in on the citywide bar-hopping extravaganza, featuring French spirits.

In partnership with Whisky Magazine, bars around town are crafting cocktails using French spirits, inviting guests on a self-guided tour with a splash of fun. You can even collect stamps along the way that can be redeemed for rewards later!

The French GourMay Food and Wine Festival also offers a unique chance to delve into French spirits through expert-led tastings and culinary workshops.

Specialized learning centers will unveil the artistry behind renowned French liquors and showcase their diverse uses in gastronomy.

For those who want to learn more, there are tastings and workshops led by experts in the industry. Expect deep dives into distillation, food pairings, and even a few rare vintages usually reserved for insiders.

Retailers are getting in on the action too. All month long, wine shops, gourmet boutiques, and online platforms will feature deals on rare French liquors and fine foods — perfect for bringing a little bit of GourMay home with you.

What is French May Arts Festival?

Since 1993, French May has grown into one of Asia’s biggest cultural festivals and a fixture on Hong Kong’s creative calendar.

This year is the 32nd edition, themed “Vive L’art – In Art We Live," bringing together French and local artists for a lively mix of theatre, film, dance, music, and more. French May aims to attract not just the French community in Hong Kong, but also the Hong Kong visitors, inviting a vibrant cultural dialogue.

With over 60 events stretching from Mar. 15 to July 13 in just about every corner of the city, this is a cultural takeover like no other.

Whether it’s a contemporary art show or a free hip-hop performance, the festival’s mission is to make art accessible to all. As a result, there is something for every kind of cultural appetite, from ballet lovers to indie film buffs, from jazz heads to classical music purists.

Some of the highlights include The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series “Picasso for Asia – A Conversation” at M+ (Mar. 15 to July 13) which kicks off the showcase, and Hong Kong Ballet’s rendition of the romantic “Giselle” at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre (May 30 to June 8).

Catch cellist Gautier Capuçon performing Shostakovich (May 8 to 9), jazz trumpeter Erik Truffaz (June 7), and the explosive dance-circus crossover “Corps extrêmes” (May 30 to June 1).

Cinephiles can also look forward to the curated French May Cinema Program, from May 20 to June 4, 2025, across Broadway Circuit cinemas, organized by the Alliance Française de Hong Kong.

Prepare to see cinema at its best, from French films taking place in Asia (South Korea and Japan) to retro classics, a tribute to Maria Callas, and documentaries by director and photographer Chantal Stoman.

Or if you want to tune in onscreen, RTHK is also presenting Cinema Enchante by screening La Vie en Rose, The Intouchables, Léon: The Professional and more iconic French films!

French May’s outreach programs also extend outside concert halls, bringing guided tours, free performances, and creative workshops to schools, local communities, and public spaces across the city.

The Stallery Celebrates 10th Year and Unveils New Exhibition ‘Artifice’

This May, celebrated multidisciplinary artist CHANG (Ernest Chang) invites art lovers to experience "Artifice," a one-of-a-kind exhibition marking the 10th anniversary of The Stallery in Hong Kong.

Located in the historic Stone Nullah Lane, just steps from the iconic Blue House, The Stallery is founded and passionately driven by CHANG. The Stallery has long championed emerging local talent and international visitors alike, fostering a vibrant community-centered art scene.

CHANG's latest exhibition, "Artifice," explores contemporary society and technology, reshaping them as organic and timeless artifacts.

But "Artifice" is more than a milestone celebration. It heralds a bold new direction for CHANG’s work, shifting away from his signature style to dive deep into the interplay of form and concept.

Inspired by Chinese Scholar’s Rocks, natural wonders shaped by time and human hands, CHANG explores paradoxes: life versus death, nature against technology, permanence beside fleeting moments.

The exhibition features artwork honored by time, combining bronze casting and hand embroidery with contemporary screen printing and digital methods. They breathe new life into symbols of our era: Wi-Fi signals, Bluetooth icons, and global currencies, all rendered as sculptural fossils.

True to The Stallery’s immersive approach, the gallery also transforms into a serene Zen Garden for "Artifice," complete with pebbled floors, textured rocks, artificial grass, and a traditional Chinese bridge — turning the entire space into a living artwork.

The story of Cirque Du Soleil follows The Innocent, a character who embarks on a journey of self-discovery after being transported to a strange world by a mysterious gift. This production elevates traditional circus acts, blending high-flying acrobatics, tight-rope walking (and cycling!), whimsical characters, and clown tomfoolery with a poetic exploration of deeply human experiences.

New acts promise to dazzle, including a fierce aerial silk performance by a solo female artist and a thrilling diabolo act starring a triple world champion. The show also features hair-raising moments like the impressive Wheel of Death performance, where two performers control a 1600-pound wheel, executing daring acrobatics in perfect synchronization.

Musically, KOOZA delivers a vibrant and eclectic score, blending funky 1970s grooves with live performances by a band featuring trumpet, trombone, drums, and more. The show also boasts two impressive vocalists who add a layer of depth and emotion to the experience.

Hong Kong’s heartbeat has always thrummed to the sound of street life, and now, courtesy of the Mondrian Hong Kong, it's dancing to a new rhythm.

This May, the five-star hotel is transforming the space opposite into a plein air stage. The Corner Shop Busking Festival celebrates the city’s up-and-coming homegrown musical talent, right in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui.

Every Saturday in May, from 6 PM to 10 PM, two fresh faces of Hong Kong’s emerging talent will take center stage. Whether you're into acoustic folk, gritty pop, or transformative R&B, this cultural outpost brings you an eclectic mix of genres — to be enjoyed for free!

The Corner Shop Busking Festival kicked off on May 10, 2025, with an intimate set-up that gave guests the chance to meet the musicians, hear their stories in a relaxed, informal setting, while enjoying vibrant live music.

On May 10, the local singer-songwriter Siu Yuen presented a mix of covers and original music, spanning acoustic folk and pop folk. Candy Ng, a member of the female group "Sex on the Beat," impressed with bold, pop-driven lyrics.

This coming May 17, at 6 PM, Gary and Exppa, a staple of Hong Kong’s busking circuit, will perform. Afterwards, VinkyBB, known for covers into personal anthems, will play at 8 PM.

The following Saturday, May 24, expect soulful ballads from Eric at 6 PM and emerging singer and songwriter Sky at 8 PM.

The rhythm of paddles slicing through water, the air thick with anticipation, and the energy of riled up festivity — Hong Kong's Dragon Boat Carnival is a celebration that is hard to beat.

This year, the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) is transforming Tsim Sha Tsui East into a non-stop cultural extravaganza, from May 31 to June 8, 2025, with the much-anticipated Sun Life Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races leading the charge.

Over 190 teams from 12 countries, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, and newcomers Egypt and Qatar, will converge on Victoria Harbour for an adrenaline-packed race.

Over 4,500 athletes will paddle for glory in 19 high-stakes races, including a new Secondary Schools Championship aimed at inspiring the next generation to dive into Hong Kong's rich cultural traditions.

But the races aren’t all you should expect! HKTB is weaving together a sensory overload of sights, sounds, and tastes that will keep visitors and locals hooked. The Dragon Boat Food Lane along the Avenue of Stars will serve up a nine-day feast of dragon-boat-inspired street snacks, rice dumplings, and summer drinks.

The area will also be home to festive photo spots featuring Ocean Park Hong Kong’s adorable Panda Friends — the giant pandas An An, Ke Ke, Ying Ying, and Le Le, along with the adorable twin cubs Elder Sister and Little Brother.

Add to that exciting flash mob acrobatic performances by the world-renowned Cirque du Soleil, and a lively Beer Garden curated by San Miguel Brewery, where visitors can unwind with local brews and enjoy live race broadcasts.

Visitors can stop by the HKTB Visitor Centers at Hong Kong International Airport, Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry Pier, and Hong Kong West Kowloon Station, or collect beer vouchers at the East Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade and redeem them for a complimentary draught beer in the Beer Garden.

As the evening draws in, the waterfront carnival will be a glowing spectacle you won't want to miss, with the Beer Garden and Dragon Boat Food Lane staying open as late as 10 PM.

The countdown has begun! Hong Kong's legendary outdoor music and arts festival Clockenflap is set to return this December, from Dec. 5 to 7, 2025!

The highly anticipated 2025 edition promises to be one for the books, with the first wave of early bird tickets and a star-studded lineup of international legends and emerging stars now officially announced.

On Dec. 5, the British multi-instrumentalist Jacob Collier, Hong Kong’s very own Panther Chan, acclaimed singer-songwriter Passenger, and German electro-house music duo Digitalism will take to the stage.

The lineup for Dec. 6 includes Indonesian rap sensation Rich Brian, the hauntingly talented Beth Gibbons, the stellar indie acts like the beloved Soccer Mommy, Japanese group Chilli Beans, Thai indie star Phum Viphurit, and the Japanese rising vocalist Akasaki.

Finally, Dec. 7 will star Taiwanese singer Yoga Lin, Scottish indie giants Franz Ferdinand, Canadian post-rock pioneers Godspeed You! Black Emperor, the American indie-pop band TV Girl, London DJ Riria, and, for the first time in 40 years, legendary Hong Kong post-punk band Bitter Tea of General Yeng will make a long-awaited return to the stage.

In addition to world-class music, Clockenflap will feature eye-catching art installations, interactive workshops, and an array of food from the city’s beloved eateries.

And for theater lovers, get ready for MINIMAX – A MOBILE & MODULAR THEATRICAL EXPERIENCE, a brand-new, mobile, modular theatrical experience making its debut at the festival.

Early Bird tickets are now available for purchase! You can get a 3-day General Admission ticket for HK$1,790, or opt for a single-day General Admission ticket for Friday, Saturday, or Sunday at HK$1,150 each.

For those under 18, Early Bird 3-day U18 tickets are priced at HK$1,430, while single-day U18 tickets for Friday, Saturday, or Sunday are available at HK$790 each.

Early bird tickets will go on sale at 3 PM (HKT) on May 13 until 11:59 PM HKT on May 23, so act quickly to snag yours. They can be purchased on Ticketflap here.
