As announced at the official D23 Expo, Hong Kong Disneyland’s latest themed area is set to open in the second half of 2023. The themed area is set in the fictional queendom of Arendelle, between the events of “Frozen” and “Frozen II,” during a Summer Snow Day celebration.

Modelled after the aesthetics from the hit “Frozen” film series, “Arendelle: World of Frozen” will feature an all-new winter-inspired section in the theme park that makes use of the natural landscape in the park, blending elements from the film’s setting with the surroundings of Lantau Island.

As speculated on WDW News Today based on concept displays at the D23 Expo, the Frozen-themed area will consist of the alpine ski lodge roller coaster “Wandering Oaken’s Sliding Sleighs” as well as a series of restaurants, shopfronts, and a “Frozen Ever After” boat ride. The original Hong Kong Disneyland press release also included a “musical journey to Elsa’s Ice Palace,” yet the attraction was no longer teased at in recent coverage.

Construction of World of Frozen was first announced in November 2016, with the government issuing a press release referencing a signed agreement with the Walt Disney Company, marking the expansion project as an official tourism development plan for Hong Kong. The project cost was planned to be split between the two parties, with a projected budget of HK$10.9 billion in total, whereby the government would pay 53% and the Walt Disney Company would invest the remaining 43%.

“Arendelle: World of Frozen” originally planned to open its doors in 2021 but has been delayed due to COVID-19 related restrictions.
