Legendary Japanese Girl Group AKB48 Launches Sister Group KLP48 in Malaysia
Japan’s biggest girl group, Akihabara48, widely known as AKB48, welcomes 2024 with a new sister group, KLP48, which is set to debut this year!
After introducing its pioneer overseas sister group, JKT48, 12 years ago, KLP48 now stands as the 10th international sister group within the 48 sister groups.
Originating in Japan in 2005, AKB48 is the brainchild of music producer Yasushi Akimoto, who challenged the prevailing norms among Japanese idols who traditionally only performed in concerts and on TV. Akimoto introduced the concept of “idols you can meet” with AKB48, establishing their own theatre where the group performs almost every night.
The success of AKB48 in the Japanese market has been nothing short of phenomenal, leading to the subsequent establishment of its overseas sister groups.
Currently, there are seven active sister groups, namely JKT48 (Jakarta), BNK48 (Bangkok), MNL48 (Manila), AKB48 Team SH (Shanghai), AKB48 Team TP (Taipei), CGM48 (Chiang Mai), and the upcoming addition, KLP48 (Kuala Lumpur).
While future activities for the new sister group are yet to be announced, KLP48 has already launched their social media accounts, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), YouTube, and its official website.
