‘Review of Culture,’ One-Off History Books on Macau, Now Available Online

In a bid to increase readership and make its works available to the wider public, the Macau’s Cultural Affairs Bureau has moved the contents of the app, “Macao eBooks,” to the “Publications” page of its official website. More than 300 new entries are now available on the website, while their former home will close in April.

The Cultural Affairs Bureau, Instituto Cultural in Portuguese, publishes the “Review of Culture,” an English/Portuguese roundup of everything about Macau. From studies of its colonial past to dives into what made Macau’s identity, the magazine is a central source of deep cultural knowledge about the city.

The bureau also releases special edition books that focus on one subject, often telling readers stories about cornerstones in Macau’s artistic and cultural history. Few of the books that made the jump to the website includes the “Auspicious Beginning – Spring Festival Traditions in the Forbidden City (2022),” “The Memorable Time – The Traditional Handicract Industries of Macao (2017),” and “A Pearl of the Sea – Macao’s Urban Evolution (2019).”

Visit the cultural bureau’s “Publications” page to browse through its catalogue.
