Value for time & money: Le Chinois is a perfect spot hidden away by many who would be eager to sample their dim sum bites. The menu is expansive and offers a selection to suit various preferences. It’s a must for quality, speedy service, and price point. 

Menu highlights: Forget the main dishes, as dim sum is the star. Try the new Honey BBQ Pork, juicy and pickled with meaty aroma, Dough Sticks with Squid Rolls, evidence of innovation in the kitchen, Steamed Prawn Dumpling, BBQ Pork Bun, and Scallops and Fungus in Rice Roll for classic flavours.

What we tasted: XO Fried Rice Roll, Beef and Bitter Melon, Roast Duck Wrapped in Vermicelli, Shredded Chicken Spring Roll, Rabbit Coconut Pudding, Charcoal Bun Stuffed with Creamy Custard.

Hits & misses: The XO fried rice roll was delicately cooked with a great fermented sauce to carry salty flavours in the rice dish. I wished the Roast Duck held a smokier body and gamier flavour, rather than lacking a stronger flavour profile.

The midday must-have: On your visit to Le Chinois, you must sample the beef and bitter melon, a juicy, gooey beef bite that balances sour tones from the melon and umami from the salty beef.

Final verdict: Le Chinois Cantonese Restaurant strives for simplicity in its dim sum menu, with a dash of innovated dishes to compete with neighbouring dim sum haunts. It’s hearty, inexpensive, and yummy!
