Macau to Bring Back International Fireworks Display Contest this Sept. 2023
The International Fireworks Display Contest is making a much-anticipated return to Macau after being suspended since 2020.
According to the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) Director, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, firework displays are scheduled to be held every Saturday between mid-Sept. to Oct. 7, including on National Day, Oct. 1. However, no fireworks display will be staged on Mid-Autumn Festival, which falls on Sept. 29, as it requires major preparations.
This year's show promises to be a dazzling display featuring competitors from ten different countries, including Japan, Portugal, and mainland China.
“We can proudly say that we can bring the International Fireworks Display Contest back to Macau. It’s a step forward for us after three years, and expectations are high surrounding this event,” says MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes.
The firework displays, which take place at the Nam Van Lake area near the Macau Tower, tend to attract throngs of visitors and residents alike. Over the years, concurrent artistic contests have been run alongside the fireworks competition, encouraging Macanese residents to flex their creative muscles in designing trophies, composing songs, creating celebratory videos, crafting posters, drawing, and photographing the event.
