As we all know, gambling is deeply ingrained in Macau’s culture, making it a popular pastime among locals and tourists alike. Macau’s long history of gambling dates back to the 16th century, when the Portuguese first arrived in the region.

With the proliferation of new casinos throughout the region, finding good ones can be quite challenging. If you’re planning to include a casino visit on your Macau trip, you can check out the iconic and historic Casino Lisboa. Before you go, here are some important things to know.

A friendly reminder to gamble responsibly and set a budget for your gambling activities.

Oldest Casino in Macau

The Casino Lisboa was the first legal casino in Macau, and its opening in 1970 was a pivotal moment in transforming the region into a prominent gambling mecca. The original casino building was designed in a unique architectural style, featuring a yellow exterior with green windows that resemble a towering lotus leaf. Macau’s “Godfather of Gambling” and owner of SJM Holding, Stanley Ho, was responsible for the construction of Casino Lisboa.

It was in the 1850s that gambling was first legalised in Macau. Nevertheless, Ho’s efforts to build his gaming empire have made Macau the “Las Vegas of Asia.”

When you plan your visit to this historic casino, make sure to come at night to witness the incredible illumination that occurs in the evening.

Location

It is strategically located in the heart of Macau Peninsula, next to Avenida de Lisboa, which is the center of other casinos and major attractions, such as the Senate Square, Macao's Historic Centre, and St. Dominic’s Church (Igreja de Sao Domingos), to name a few.

Casino Lisboa is also adjacent to the iconic Grand Lisboa Hotel, famous for its distinctive lotus-shaped design and the eye-catching structure of Macau's skyline.

Facilities and Entertainment Options

Casino Lisboa is home to a luxury hotel, multiple gaming floors, a shopping arcade, 14 restaurants (including four with Michelin stars), a swimming pool, and a Parisian-style cabaret show. Its gaming area is built with multiple levels and a high ceiling, creating a roomy and vibrant ambience for players.

Known for its grandeur and high-quality gaming experience, guests can enjoy a wide variety of facilities and table games like baccarat, blackjack, roulette, and poker, as well as slot machines. Every early afternoon, guests can witness the free Crazy Paris Show cabaret that has been entertaining visitors for more than four decades.

Other entertainment options that Casino Lisboa has to offer include live performances and concerts at The Grand Lisboa Ballroom located within the casino complex. Whether or not you’re staying in the hotel, the casinos, restaurants, and shops of Casino Lisboa are open to everyone.
