ARTmusing Summer: Shows, Workshops and Film Carnival From July 1-Sept. 24

Families in Macau can look forward to the Macau Cultural Centre's (CCM) ARTmusing Summer programmes happening from July to the end of September, including performances, movies, workshops, and a film carnival.

The programmes cater to the whole family, from babies and small children to youths and seniors, according to a press release by the Cultural Affairs Bureau on May 30.

The first round of events, the ARTmusing Summer Workshops, will run from July 1-Aug. 27 and will include creative activities that will compel participants to experiment and be playful. There will be children's workshops, family workshops, youth workshops, and senior friends workshops.

There will also be the theatre show "Deep Blue" from July 14-16 and the multimedia play "The Little Prince's Star Journey" on Aug. 12-13, while the ARTmusing Film Carnival is scheduled for Aug. 24-27. A blend of American, Asian, and European films will be screened in the latter, from animated and live action movies to flicks based on real events.

Another round of workshops, performances, and arts and craft activities will be held at the CCM on Aug. 27. The ARTmusing Summer will wrap up from Sept. 20-24 with "Sweet Dream in the Woods," a sensorial adventure by producer Chan Si Kei that's perfect for children aged four to 15 months.

Tickets for the ARTmusing Summer programmes will be on sale beginning June 4, Sunday, at Macao Ticketing Network. Workshop pre-registration began yesterday, May 31. For more information, go here

Bask in the moxie and beauty of Neo-Expressionism, as integrated entertainment resort City of Dreams Macau and multi-dimensional art space Artelli is hosting the “Crowning Journey” exhibit featuring the legendary artist Jean-Michel Basquiat's work.

From today until Nov. 24 at The Showroom at City of Dreams, art lovers in Macau can witness the celebrated icon’s works that embody his bold and innovative spirit, as well as his inspiring journey from being a street artist to a legend in the world of art.

The exhibition features large-scale art installations, immersive and interactive experiences, and multimedia art that will take the spectators into Basquiat’s world. This includes a cluster of art installations that are reminiscent of the 1980s New York cityscapes, where he had his humble beginnings, located at the venue's main portal.

A seven-meter-tall dinosaur-shaped installation also dazzles the venue, which is inspired by one of Basquiat’s most recognizable artworks from 1984, the “Pez Dispenser,” also known as the “Dinosaur with Crown.”

Over at the Southwest Entrance, a ten-meter outdoor installation inspired by the artist’s “Brown Spots (Portraits of Andy Warhol as a Banana)” likewise brightens the exhibition. The Showroom at City of Dreams’ façade is also adorned with a ten-meter-wide canvas with a six-meter-tall crown perched atop, inspired by Basquiat’s “Grillo.”

Visitors can also get their hands on various exclusive merchandise, which includes an art puzzle, a postcard set, and a Mahjong set.

Jean-Michel Basquiat is one of the most celebrated artists of the 20th century, known for infusing avant-garde style with social commentary on his works.

City of Dreams Macau and Artelli’s “Crowning Journey” exhibit is open to the public from 11 AM to 8 PM, while its outdoor installations will be on display for 24 hours daily. For more information, click here.

A world-class opera experience is coming to Macau this October as resort destination Galaxy Macau is hosting its “Galaxy Opera Gala,” featuring the legendary Spanish tenor, Plácido Domingo.

Happening on Oct. 20, the gala is set to stage a majestic performance by Domingo, along with the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, one of China's most celebrated; alongside the Orchestra Milano Classica and the Orchestra Scarlatti Young, Naples’ principal conductor, Beatrice Venezi.

They will be joined by two emerging talents in opera: China-born, Italy-based soprano Bingbing Wang and Italian-German mezzo-soprano Anna-Doris Capitelli.

The gala will treat guests to arias and duets from various popular operas, such as “The Marriage of Figaro,” “Carmen,” “La Traviata,” and “The Merry Widow,” among others. The show will be staged at Galaxy Macau’s state-of-the-art venue, the Galaxy International Convention Center (GICC), a 40,000-square-meter space that can host up to 16,000 guests.

Plácido Domingo is recognized as one of the most influential actors in opera, as he was a member of the famed "Three Tenors" along with legends Luciano Pavarotti and José Carreras. He has also won several accolades in his career, including 12 Grammy Awards, and has played over 150 roles throughout his career.

Catch Hallyu Star Kim Jae-joong at His 'Flower Garden' Concert in Macau

Missed Kim Jae-joong? Your wait is over, Boss Babies, as the South Korean singer-songwriter and actor is coming to Macau this October for his 2024 Asia tour, “Flower Garden!”

Happening on Oct. 13 at the Broadway Theater in Broadway Macao, the Hallyu star’s upcoming concert is in celebration of his 20th year since entering the industry. At the concert, fans can expect Jae-joong's performances of his solo songs, as well as other spectacular surprises dedicated to his fans.

Tickets to Jae-joong's Macau show will be available starting Aug. 14 at 12 PM via Broadway Macau and Damai, with prices ranging from MOP999 to MOP1,799.

Fans purchasing their tickets are also in for a treat, as each ticket comes with an official poster and photocard set. Meanwhile, lucky fans can get the chance to win signed posters, group photo and send-off privileges, and soundcheck access.

Aside from Macau, Jae-joong is also scheduled to stage his concert in Seoul, Yokohama, Kobe, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and Taiwan.

Kim Jae-joong debuted in late 2003 as a member of the K-pop group TVXQ! and later became a member of the trio JYJ. In 2023, he established his own entertainment agency, iNKODE, and has recently released his 20th anniversary album, “Flower Garden,” with the lead single “Glorious Day.”

Macau's 36th MIMF to Kick off This October with Stellar Lineup

The Macao International Music Festival (MIMF) is set to dazzle opera and classical music lovers with its 36th edition, happening from Oct. 4 to Nov. 4.

Themed “And the Stars Shine,” this year’s festival will have a total of 12 programs and 16 outreach activities, featuring up-and-coming musicians and seasoned maestros with their timeless melodies.

The festival will kick off with “Tosca—Opera in Three Acts” by Giacomo Puccini, one of the most famous operas in the world. It will be presented by the Macao Orchestra and the Mariinsky Orchestra, helmed by world-renowned classical music conductor Valery Gergiev.

Gergiev will also lead the Mariinsky Orchestra in two more concerts, which will feature classic Russian music from Prokofiev, Shostakovich, and Rachmaninoff, among others.

Acclaimed violinist Leonidas Kavakos will also team up with the ApollΩn Ensemble to perform a repertoire of Bach’s violin concertos, while legendary pianist Ivo Pogorelich will present an enchanting performance of music from the Romantic period.

One of the United States’ leading music ensembles, The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, will also be doing their interpretation of iconic pieces by Mahler, Beethoven, Schubert, and Mendelssohn, among others. French pianist Hélène Grimaud and the Camerata Salzburg will also be presenting a stellar concert featuring classics from the Viennese School.

Presenting elegant jazz concerts are Grammy Lifetime Achievement Awardee and legendary jazz pianist Herbie Hancock, as well as renowned American jazz musician Wynton Marsalis. Meanwhile, world-renowned Portuguese Fado diva Mariza and the Macao Chinese Orchestra, under the baton of Chinese conductor Tsung Yeh, will present the closing performance with a blend of Western poetry and Chinese chords.

Tickets to the 36th MIMF will be available via Macau Ticket starting Aug. 18, with an early bird discount of 30% for those buying from Aug. 18 to 25 and 20% from Aug. 26 onwards.

In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to the Motherland, the Guangdong & Macao Branded Products Fair is inviting shoppers and leisure lovers to its return to Macau this month!

Happening at the Cotai Expo Hall D in The Venetian Macao from July 25 to 28, the fair will feature branded products from the Guangdong province, Macau, as well as “Belt and Road” countries and regions, under the theme of “China Chic.”

In line with the theme, the fair will have a China Chic Area, which will be comprised of the Exquisite China Chic Pavilion, the Chinese Culture Pavilion, and the Chinese Spirits & Liquor Street. These areas will offer visitors various experiences, from cultural heritage handicrafts and a remake of the famous Chinese painting, “A Hundred Scenes of the Song Dynasty” to a drunk simulator and a fashion show that exhibits traditional Chinese clothing.

Aside from these, the fair will also have a “New Gourmet Tasting Zone,” which will introduce Halal foods to the festival along with other delectable fares from famous Chinese and Western chefs.

The fair is also debuting an artificial intelligence (AI) helper, Ba Ba, which will answer guests’ questions about the fair and promote products to buyers and exhibitors at the event.

To make the event more exciting, there will also be over 75,000 gifts to be given out to the guests upon entry. They can also join a lucky draw for a chance to win products like smart electric motorcycles, mobile phones, game consoles, and smart kitchen equipment, among many others.

Visitors will also be given a treasure hunt card, which they can use to collect stamps and exchange them for a gift. They can also play games at the venue to win prizes like hair dryers, mobile phones, or supermarket coupons.

ICYDK: ‘International Cities of Gastronomy Fest’ Is Happening this June

Get ready to experience “International Cities of Gastronomy Fest, Macao,” a ten-day festival that celebrates the tourism and gastronomy of many cities around the world.

Slated to take place from June 14 to 23 at Macau Fisherman’s Wharf, the culinary festival will feature 30 Creative Cities of Gastronomy from Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania. The event will have three highlights: “International Gastronomy Promenade,” “City of Gastronomy Showcase,” and “International Gastronomy Forum, Macao.”

The "International Gastronomy Promenade" will take place in the Roman Amphitheatre Square and Legend Boulevard from 3:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. throughout the period. Here, guests can expect Asian gastronomy and will explore over a hundred food booths. There will also be around 700 seats, along with a game zone and a seaside bar for everyone to enjoy.

Meanwhile, the “City of Gastronomy Showcase,” will star chefs from 27 Creative Cities of Gastronomy worldwide who will present their skills in 62 culinary showcase sessions on the Main Stage at Legend Boulevard, followed by sampling sessions.

As for the “International Gastronomy Forum, Macao,” the first since the COVID-19 pandemic, is themed “Holistic Gastronomy: Eat well, live well.” The event will include discussions on “the concerted development between the fields of gastronomy and wellness,” with insights into food culture aiming to “steer gastronomic development towards a more sustainable future.”

Macao Grand Prix Museum Offers Free Admission and Fun Activities on May 18

As the International Museum Day approaches, the Macao Grand Prix Museum is gearing up for the Macao International Museum Day Carnival 2024. The museum has prepared exciting activities for guests, along with free admission to the public on May 18.

Prepare to have fun and unleash your racing skills when you visit and join in the “Remote Control Fun Race” booth game at the carnival! The fun race will be between two competitors, and the winner will take home a free souvenir to remember your victory. Note that the gifts are on a first-come, first-served basis – so if you want to win one, be there early!

Aside from the booth game, the museum will also roll out “Racing Cars Balloon Twisting" on specific time slots, where visitors will receive twisted balloons while stocks last. The balloon distribution is between 11 AM and 12 PM, 2 PM and 3 PM, and 5 PM and 6 PM.

According to a press release, the carnival will kick off with an opening ceremony at the Mount Fortress Garden at 2 PM on May 12. Throughout May, over 20 participating museums will also hold exhibitions and other fun activities!
