2024 MGM Macao International Regatta Brings Sailing Spectacle, Jan. 11-14
Macau is gearing up for a maritime extravaganza with the "2024 MGM Macao International Regatta", scheduled from Jan. 11 to 14, 2024.
This world-class sailing event, organized by the Sports Bureau, MGM, Ursa Major Sailing Event Management, and co-organized by the Marine and Water Bureau and the Macau Sailing Association, is poised to showcase Macau’s rich maritime heritage and promote the development of sailing sports.
The tournament will see top sailing teams from around the world converging on the waters of Macau, competing for champion titles across three days of intense racing.
The regatta consists of three main race categories: the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Cup Regatta (IRC), the Macao Cup International Regatta (Beneteau First 40.7 unified design group), and the International Catamaran Invitational (Hobie 16 unified design group).
The Greater Bay Area Cup and the Macao Cup will take place in the waters south of Hac Sa Beach, with 11 teams each, while the International Catamaran Invitational will see 15 teams battling it out near the Macao Science Center.
In addition to the races, the event will feature fleet parades and an International Invitational Catamaran Tournament in the sea off the Macao Science Center. A series of spectator-friendly activities will also be organized. In tandem with the Regatta, the public is invited to take part in a photography competition to capture the best moments from sailing and the tournaments.
Details of the official events will be announced shortly on the official website.
