Face Shields Now Voluntary in Areas Under Alert Levels 1 to 3 – Palace

Face shields are no longer required in areas under Alert Levels 3 and lower, as approved by President Rodrigo Duterte in a memorandum served by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea to the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) on Nov. 15.

The use of face shields under Alert Levels 3, 2, and 1 shall be voluntary. Metro Manila is under Alert Level 2 until Nov. 30 and may downgrade to Alert Level 1 if COVID-19 cases go fewer than 1,000, according to Department of Health Secretary Francisco Duque.

Meanwhile, local government units (LGUs) and private establishments are given discretion to mandate the use of face shields in areas under Alert Level 4, whereas face shields are mandatory for areas under Alert Level 5 and granular lockdowns.

The use of face shields in medical, quarantine facility, and healthcare settings remain mandatory.
