Commuters May Now Buy To-go Snacks From Vending Machines at LRT-1 Stations

Commuting in the Philippines means waking up before dawn and often skipping breakfast just to beat the traffic and congested public transportation.

In a bid to provide quick and light snacks among commuters, the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC), in collaboration with retail company Snacks To-Go by Rebisco, installed vending machines at select Light Rail Transit (LRT)-1 stations. These vending machines are located at LRT-1 Carriedo Station and Yamaha Monumento Station.

On Feb. 7, the LRMC announced on Facebook that commuters can now purchase to-go snacks from the vending machines via cash or GCash. It also reminded commuters that they can eat the snacks before and after their train ride.

Facebook users were quick to react and comment on the post. While some riders were appreciative of the initiative, others questioned the LRT’s policy of not allowing passengers to bring outside food even while waiting in the ticketing area.
