Manila, Philippines Is the 'Most Loving Capital City' in the World – Study

Filipinos’ sense of compassion or malasakit is one of the best ways they express love and care for others, whether it to be a romantic partner, elderly people, or even foreigners.

In a word analysis conducted by Crossword Solver, the results showed that Manila (capital city of the Philippines) is the most loving capital city in the world. Out of every 100,000 tweets, 1,246 of them contained the phrase "love you."

Crossword Solver explained that “[love] is at the core of most families, and immediate and extended family are considered very important in Filipino culture.” It also highlighted the concept of expressing deep emotions through heart-rending quotes and song lyrics, also referred to as hugot among younger generations.

The research calculated the number of loving tweets per 100,000 to determine which city was more loving than others. The findings are based on geotagged tweets from different cities across the world, which include tweets that contain the word love (e.g., love you, love u). Heart emojis followed by “you” or “u” were also factored in. However, duplicated tweets were excluded to “ensure representability, a maximum of 20 tweets per account was set.”

Among other 72 countries, Guatemala is the most loving country with 2,217 loving tweets per 100,000. Cochabamba in Bolivia is named as the most loving city in the world with 2,878 loving tweets. West Virginia is the most loving state in the United States with 613 loving tweets, while El Paso, Texas, is the most loving city in the U.S. with 521 tweets.
