Philippines is the Most Disaster-Prone Country in 2022, Report Says
The Philippines ranked first on the list of global disaster-prone countries by Germany-based Bündnis Entwicklung Hilft and the Institute for International Law of Peace and Armed Conflict at Ruhr University Bochum (IFHV). This comes after the country had been severely hit by Typhoon Karding, which caused widespread destruction and flooding.
The report, which captures the climate risk of 193 nations on an annual basis, identified the Philippines (WRI 46.82) as the world’s most disaster-prone country in 2022, followed by India (WRI 42.31) and Indonesia (41.46).
Countries such as Colombia (WRI 38.37), Mexico (WRI 37.55), Myanmar (WRI 35.49), Mozambique (WRI 34.37), China (WRI 28.70), Bangladesh (WRI 27.90), and Pakistan (WRI 26.27) are also part of the disaster-prone index.
The study revealed that the Americas has the highest calamity risk, followed by Asia, Africa, and Oceania. Meanwhile, Europe is the least vulnerable to natural hazards and disasters.
