French Patisserie Ladurée to Open its First SEA Flagship Store in Manila
Oui, it's true!
World-renowned French patisserie Ladurée is opening its very first Southeast Asia (SEA) Flagship Store in Manila this May 2025 at the One Bonifacio Mall in Bonifacio Global City!
The iconic French pastry shop will be offering "a little piece of Paris" in the heart of Metro Manila, such as their famous macarons shipped directly from Switzerland. Ladurée will also open a luxurious Salon de Thé, where guests can enjoy the Maison's exquisite savory menu through a fine dining experience. They will accept pre-bookings starting February 2025.
Ladurée has hinted at some of their menu offerings in the Philippines, which will include a breakfast collection, sundaes, and of course, their most iconic macarons and pastries! Très bien, no?
It can be remembered that Ladurée had a little store at 8 Rockwell, Makati City, which opened back in 2015. However, it closed down during the height of the pandemic.
French Luxury in a Pastry: L’histoire de Ladurée
Ladurée first began as a bakery in 1862 by Louis-Ernest Ladurée. During the Paris Commune in 1871, the bakery was burned down and was later transformed into a pastry shop. The pastry shop was decorated with cherubs in patisserie chef clothing by Jules Chéret.
Fun Fact: Did you know that the interior of the first pastry shop was painted in the celadon green Ladurée is known for today?
The pastry shop's rise to fame came when Parisian pastry chef Pierre Desfontaines, Ladurée's grandcousin, introduced the idea of joining together two macaron shells and filling them with jam or ganache.
This recipe has not changed since the 19th Century.
As of writing, Ladurée has 129 locations around the world, with its head office in Paris, France.
In popular culture, Ladurée made the pastries and macarons seen in the 2006 film "Marie Antoinette," directed by Sofia Coppola. They were also seen in the CW hit teen drama "Gossip Girl" as Blair Waldorf's favorite pastries.
Most recently, Ladurée partnered with Shondaland and Netflix for the recent season of the popular period drama "Bridgerton," as well as the official licensee of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
