Clowns are often associated with laughter and joy, but for visual artist and content creatorRaco Ruiz, this colorful character is a “commentary on the human condition.”
Aiming to share this perspective and showcase “nostalgia and introspection,” Ruiz is unveiling his third solo exhibit, “CLOWNRRY,” to art lovers. The exhibit will shine a light on the clown character and its embodiment of human complexities and emotional debacles.
At the exhibit, visitors can look forward to a display of Ruiz’s works that reveal the “complex, often hidden layers of humanity” behind clowns’ colorful costumes and painted smiles. This includes Ruiz’s six-foot painting, his largest work yet.
There will also be only 10 pieces on display and will be available to those who want to purchase them.
On why he chose to depict clowns in his latest exhibition, Ruiz said in a press statement, “Clowns have always fascinated me. The colors, the faces, the costumes, and the juxtaposition of their public persona versus their personal reality have always drawn me in.”
He added, “This exhibit is a love letter to my favorite clowns and a self-portrait series. I want to humorously highlight how we’ve all, in some ways, grown up to be clowns ourselves. It’s not always a happy situation, but it’s a reality many of us face.”
For the exhibit’s promotional poster, Ruiz has collaborated with designer Ha Mu for the costume and photographer Julia Richards.
Ruiz’s “CLOWNRRY” follows the success of his second solo exhibit titled “Surrealicious” and his collaboration collection with lifestyle brand 0917.
"CLOWNRRY” opens from Sept. 15 to 27 at Secret FreshGallery in San Juan. Make sure to check it out!
