Five universities in the Philippines have made it into the “QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2024” by British-born global higher education insights company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), which was unveiled earlier this month.

Featuring about 1,400 universities from across the globe, the list recognises the top institutions that are at the forefront of social and environmental sustainability in the world. The rankings are measured through three components: social impact, environmental impact, and governance.

Leading the pack among universities in the country is the University of the Philippines (UP), which earned the 231st spot. UP is followed by Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), which took 593rd place.

Furthermore, De La Salle University (DLSU) placed in the 981-1000 bracket, while the University of Santo Tomas (UST) was ranked in the 1001-1050 bracket. The list was rounded up by Mapúa University in the 1201+ ranking.

While UP and DLSU made last year’s list at 401-450 and 601+, respectively, ADMU, UST, and Mapúa debuted in the rankings this year.

Meanwhile, the University of Toronto in Canada topped the list, followed by University of California, Berkeley (UCB) in the United States and The University of Manchester in the United Kingdom.
