Ikea Philippines: What We Know Thus Far

We can't lie. The upcoming launch of Swedish furniture conglomerate Ikea in the Philippines is the stuff of our home decor and organization dreams.

What's not to love about Ikea? Its friendly blue and yellow facade is a welcome sign for shoppers to step inside, while its affordable yet modern furniture and wares prove that good home design can be democratized and isn’t just limited to a privileged few. Let’s not forget its Swedish meatballs, by the way, which will surely be a worthy contender to the Filipino homestyle bola-bola.

As we keep our eyes peeled for the launch of Ikea Philippines, here are some things you need to know about the home furnishings giant.

It took root in the Philippines in 2016

Ikea's journey in the Philippines started in 2016, beginning with just a few pioneer employees in a studio-sized office. The team eventually transferred to a co-working space before eventually settling into their cozy and #klazzy headquarters in 8 Rockwell, Makati City.

It’s the largest Ikea store in the world

Ikea Philippines is situated within the Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City and is 65,000 square meters big, making it larger than the Louvre Museum (around 60,000 square meters) and the Sydney Opera House (around 45,000 square meters).

It will feature a two-level shop area, a large warehouse, an e-commerce facility, and an integrated call center.

It’s built by SM Prime Holdings

SM Prime Holdings, Inc. (SM Prime), who also owns Mall of Asia, was in charge of building the country’s first Ikea store. The integrated property developer broke down barriers when it built one of the biggest malls in the Philippines, and now it's done it again by building the largest Ikea store in the world.

The Ikea store is built on block 4 of the MOA Complex, bordered by SM Mall of Asia in the north, MOA Arena in the east, MOA Arena Annex in the south, and the SMX Convention Center in the west.

It’ll launch its e-commerce store before the physical store

It’s been reported that Ikea Philippines will first launch its online store before its physical store. The target opening date of the physical store is in the last quarter of 2021, so sometime between October and December. We can expect its e-commerce store to launch, hopefully, before then.

Ikea Philippines’ website has been up and running for a while now, but it would look so much better with an ‘Add to Cart’ button. It’s been confirmed that Ikea Philippines’ received its first batch of products last June 7, so we’re crossing our fingers they’re just ironing a few kinks out and will be launching online soon.
