Cross Island Line Phase 2 to Open by 2032 With Six Underground Stations

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced the alignment and station locations of the 15-kilometre Cross Island Line Phase 2 (CRL2), which will span Bright Hill to Jurong Lake District and benefit those living in areas not served by an MRT line such as Sunset Way and West Coast.

The LTA identified the six underground stations in a press release yesterday, namely Turf City, King Albert Park, Maju, Clementi, West Coast, and Jurong Lake District. The King Albert Park and Clementi stations will serve as interchange stations, connecting to the Downtown Line and East-West Line, respectively.

Construction of the CRL2 will kick off in 2023, with a target opening of 2032. The CRL2, along with 12 other stations on CRL Phase 1 and four stations on CRL-Punggol Extension, will give Singaporeans alternative travel options and help in spreading the commuter load in the city-state's rail network for better accessibility. This is part of the LTA's goal to have eight in 10 households within just a 10-minute walk away from a train station.

Construction works for Phase 1 of the CRL, which will span 29 kilometres and have 12 stations from Aviation Park to Bright Hill, have already begun this year, while construction for the CRL-Punggol Extension is slated to kick off at the end of this year.

The Singaporean government has acquired three lots of private land for the CRL2, two of which are owned by JTC, and the third a subterranean space under a private land parcel.

The LTA said it will work with the affected landowners and sublessees with the Singapore Land Authority to aid them amid the lands' acquisition.
