Survey: Gen Z Hybrid Workers in Singapore ‘Most Stressed,’ Became More Emotional

Stress levels in Singapore have shown a significant increase in comparison to the global average, according to the Cigna 360 Global Well-Being Survey 2022.

The survey polled 1,001 people in Singapore and showed that the top stressors include cost of living (50%), future uncertainty (38%), and personal financial management (35%). Singaporeans have also started to change their priorities in order to improve their mental health at work.

About 73% of workers in Singapore preferred flexible working locations or hours, while 94% of hybrid workers reported feeling stressed. About 43% of them preferred employers who provide coping measures to reduce virtual fatigue.

Gen Z respondents, or those aged 18 to 24, are the most stressed out (95%); 51% admitted they became more emotional and 50% are feeling depressed. Physical effects were also evident among Gen Zs, who experienced loss of concentration (56%) and productivity (48%). This age group also had the highest risk of experiencing symptoms of burnout, such as procrastination and self-doubt.

Cigna International surveyed 11,922 people aged 18-65 in Australia, Belgium, Mainland China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Kenya, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, The Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The survey was completed in April and May 2022.
