Moisturizers vs. Ampoules: What’s the Difference?

Skincare has been a prevailing topic in today's generation. It is a never-ending discussion on beauty regimen and products that make promising results like softer and smoother skin.
Skincare routine has been associated with how you love and take care of yourself. That’s why a lot of us would likely invest in the trendiest brands endorsed by our favorite celebrities.
From exfoliators to sunscreen, we’re obsessed with different kinds of skincare brands. However, some products can be quite confusing on how to use and whether they’re necessary for your routine at all. Sometimes, these products are almost the same, just like moisturizers and ampoules.
Make sure to check the products first before you use them on your face. You can apply a small amount on your inner forearm to test if there are any adverse reactions. If you get skin irritation or hives, consult a dermatologist immediately.
What’s the Difference Between Moisturizers and Ampoules?
Let’s break down the differences between these two formulas, their methods of application, and skin benefits.
Moisturizers
Never skip moisturizers. Applying moisturizer to your skin is one of the healthiest skincare regimens. That’s why it’s important to choose a moisturizing product that contains plenty of vitamins. This must include Vitamins A and B5 to increase firmness, as well as Vitamins C and E that act as antioxidants.

- When to Use
You can apply moisturizer after taking a bath, when shaving, or after exfoliating. Always moisturize especially when you had a hot bath because it zaps the moisture and natural oils from your skin, leaving it prone to damage. You can moisturize at least twice a day.
- Skin Benefits
Generally, moisturizers reduce skin dryness or oiliness to avoid problems including acne. It helps your skin to stay young by boosting skin cells to repair itself, especially from the face, ears, neck, and chest. These areas are the most susceptible to environmental changes, which could sometimes lead to skin cancer.
Always massage your skin upwards when moisturizing to improve blood flow and renew damaged skin cells. This also makes your skin appear glossy, concealing blemishes without using any cosmetics.
Ampoules
If you’re not familiar with ampoules, these are little glass of vials with highly concentrated active serums which makes them more powerful compared to a moisturizer.
Ampoules are put into vials in order to “preserve the purity and potency of the product” because too much exposure to air and light may affect its formulae like retinol, hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and Vitamin C.

- When to Use
Unlike moisturizers, ampoules are not recommended to use every day because their ingredients are highly concentrated which can be bad especially for those with sensitive skin types.
To use the ampoule, apply only a few drops and massage gently using your fingers until completely absorbed into your skin.
You can also mix an extra ampoule with your moisturizer or foundation to save time when applying. This combination of products can make your skin smoother and have an extra glow.
- Skin Benefits
Ampoules protect our skin against pollution and other toxins. It also has anti-aging and moisturizing properties.
