Editors’ note: Due to the local COVID-19 situation, some of the landmarks and attractions below may be closed until further notice.
With an indoor waterfall, hundreds of retail stores, and an impressive moving sculpture installation, Singapore’s Changi Airport is more than just a place where you wait for your flight. It is a tourist attraction on its own. After all, it would not be hailed as the world’s best airport for nothing. In fact, many locals visit the famed airport without some luggage in tow nor a passport on hand; they simply want to marvel at Changi’s man-made attractions.
Unfortunately, some of these attractions had to be cordoned off in compliance with government measures to contain the spread of COVID-19.
So, while we are still waiting for things to return to normal, you may include in your future itinerary some of these exciting things to do at Changi Airport that will cost you little to nothing.
Visit the Butterfly Garden
Tagged as the world’s first butterfly garden, this landmark is home to more than 1,000 tropical butterflies from about 40 species. It is also a botanical paradise with its lush greenery and flowering plants. All these are set with the sounds of the raging six-meter waterfall in the background.
Watch a Movie
Got some time to kill before your flight? Why not watch a movie for free? Changi Airport has a movie theater located in terminals 2 (near the Sunflower Garden) and 3 (near the Ambassador Transit Lounge). The theaters are open 24/7!
(Window)shop Until You Drop
From luxury items to basic essentials, Changi is a great place to have your next retail therapy. Before the pandemic, the airport housed more than 350 shops where you can buy last-minute souvenirs, luxury bags, wines, and even traditional Chinese medicines.
Take a Snap of Sunflowers
The popular Sunflower Garden is never to be missed when it comes to things to do at Changi. This landmark is one of the most photographed attractions at the airport, thanks to its golden-sun beauty. It is located on the rooftop of Terminal 2, making it a perfect spot if you want to watch planes take off while getting your much-needed Vitamin D.
Explore Jewel
One of the most recognizable features of Changi Airport is the Rain Vortex, an indoor waterfall flanked by lush forests. This and dozens of other attractions are housed in Jewel, a nature-inspired retail and entertainment complex. You can spend half a day exploring this entertainment marvel where you can find lush gardens, a tropical forest, hundreds of shopping and dining outlets, and a hotel. The entire complex has 10 storeys and spans 135,700 square meters. Launched in April 2019, this multidimensional tourist attraction used to attract 300,000 visitors per day prior to the pandemic.

It’s always magical to wander through Singapore’s Chinatown under a canopy of lanterns. And this year, that magic is magnified. The Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival 2025 is a celebration of mooncakes and moonlight as well as a tribute to 60 years of Singaporean independence, weaving together tradition, progress, and multicultural pride.

From Sept. 7 to Oct. 20, 2025, Chinatown transforms into a radiant precinct filled with handcrafted displays, cultural programs, and community festivities. The theme, “60 Glorious Years: Celebrating Mid-Autumn in Singapore,” honors the nation’s journey while inviting people of all backgrounds to share in the joy of storytelling and togetherness.
The heart of the celebration is a stunning eight-meter-tall installation featuring the number 60, flanked by rabbits, orchids, and mooncakes set against the Singapore skyline. Streets like New Bridge Road, Eu Tong Sen Street, and South Bridge Road come alive with glowing lotus flowers, jade pendants, and mythical scenes of Chang’e, the moon goddess.
Photo from Website/Chinatown Festivals
The Official Street Light-Up and Opening Ceremony takes place on Sept. 18, 2025 at Kreta Ayer Square, officiated by Minister Josephine Teo and other community leaders. Visitors can also enjoy a rich lineup of events: the Chinatown Festive Fair, Lantern Design Competition, Mass Lantern Walk, and even a Tea Appreciation Gathering. A special Lantern Adoption Programme promotes sustainability by allowing the public to take home lanterns after the festival ends.
Organized by the Chinatown Festival Committee and supported by the Kreta Ayer–Kim Seng Citizens’ Consultative Committee, the festival is a vibrant showcase of Singapore’s multiculturalism and enduring community spirit.
Whether a local or a visitor, this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival offers more than just photo ops because it’s a glowing reminder of resilience, unity, and shared heritage. To explore the full program and plan your visit, head to Chinatown Festivals’ website, Instagram, and Facebook.

From the must-see attractions to dining options and ticket details, here’s everything you need to know for an unforgettable visit to Singapore’s premier wildlife destination.
Best Time to Go
Singapore is a great destination to visit all year round due to its tropical climate, but if we were to recommend the best season to go, it would be around March to May when the city-state enjoys good weather with anaverage temperature of 27 °C. Although it’s still warm, the rain is less, thus the humidity is lower, making it the ideal weather for galivanting through Mandai’s parks.
Springtime is also considered a low tourism season, so you can enjoy the attractions with fewer crowds. This is ideal for those looking to enjoy the scenic views without throngs of visitors getting in the way or to enjoy a peaceful stroll through the reserve.
Getting There
Mandai Wildlife Reserve can easily be reached via public and private transport. Several MRT and Bus lines can take you straight there.
There’s a shuttle service (S$2.50) available at Khatib MRT Station (NS14), arriving daily every 15 minutes during operating hours and 20 minutes between 11 PM and 12 AM.
Alternatively, you can hop on the Mandai City Express bus, which has pick-up points all over the city. One-way trips are at S$8 while round-trip tickets can be purchased for S$16. You can learn more about the stations, bus schedules, and pick-up points here.
If you plan on driving to Mandai, there are designated car parks in the area. Those visiting Birds Paradise and Rainforest Wild ASIA should head over to Carpark 1 on the west side of the reserve, while Carpark 2 is best suited for the East attractions such as Singapore Zoo, River of Wonders, Night Safari, Mandai Boardwalk, and Mandai Rainforest Resort. Before You Go
For any trip, it’s important to plan ahead. Knowing which attractions you want to experience allows you to make the most out of your visit. Here are some of our pro-tips to make your upcoming nature adventure a success!
Build an itinerary – It helps to be fully detailed, but you also don’t have to plan everything by the minute. Just knowing the activities you want to pursue first, as well as which time during the day would be best for a snack break, can help you maximize your time inside the park. We highly recommend downloading the Mandai App, which can help curate your personalized itinerary. You can set up remindersforshows andattractions, do mobile food ordering, as well as access any information you might need while inside the parks. Mandai also has suggested itineraries and experience checklists for each of the parks, which you can view and use here.
Wear comfortable clothing – The park is best explored at a leisurely walking pace, so make sure you have your most comfortable footwear on. It can also get pretty warm as you’ll be spending most of your time under the sun, so we suggest wearing light, breathable clothing.
Stay hydrated – There are water refill stations around the park, so don’t forget to bring your water bottles.
Weatherproof – The occasional showers do come down, so be prepared for any kind of weather. Foldable umbrellas and raincoats can be a good idea to bring, and it’s also helpful to check the weather forecast on the day of your visit to be prepared.
Wear insect repellent and sun protection – Although the park takes preventive measures for its guests, you can avoid insect bites by making sure to put on insect repellents and protect yourself from harmful rays by applying sunscreen.
