The new trains for the North-South and East-West MRT lines (NSEWL), with iconic green and red stripes, arrived in Singapore yesterday, Feb 21.
According to a Facebook post of the Land Transport Authority, the first two new train cars were designed in Germany and built in China. While some parts were sourced from the United Kingdom and France.
They are part of the fleet of 106 new trains that will replace the first-generation trains operating since 1987.
These new trains in Singapore are considered commuter-friendly as they feature “refreshed LCD screens displaying train travel information” and “an integrated suite of condition monitoring features to aid pre-emptive maintenance.”
A series of rigorous testing and commissioning works will be conducted prior to the commencement of the trains’ trip at the end of 2022.
