Online Marriage Registration Portal to Be Rolled Out on Sept. 25
Couples in Singapore will finally be able to register their marriage online beginning Sept. 25 via the "Our Marriage Journey" (OMJ) portal by the Registry of Marriages (ROM) and the Registry of Muslim Marriages (ROMM).
The OMJ makes the registration process completely digital, from application to the issuance of the Certificate of Marriage (COM), according to a press release by the Ministry of Social and Family Development on Aug. 16. It's also convenient, as eligible couples can sign their declarations digitally and won’t need to go to the ROMM and ROM to verify their documents.
Couples will likewise be allowed to marry even if they are unable to do an in-person solemnisation, thanks to the video-link solemnisation option that will now be a permanent fixture.
With the OMJ portal's seamlessness, couples will be able to work on establishing a strong foundation for their marriage, which is essential. Couples can also access marriage resources and programmes via the portal, such as marriage preparation programmes and marriage mentoring programmes, among many others.
"With these enhancements, couples can focus on preparing for their married life together,” Registrar for ROM, Timothy Pak, was quoted as saying. “Solemnisers can play a more active role in journeying alongside couples, laying the foundation for strong and enduring marriages.”
