They say that designing the home of your dreams reflects your uniqueness and personal tastes. When thinking of cost-effective and quality housing in Singapore, the Housing and Development Board (HDB) flats are what first come to mind.

Since they are subsidised by the government, HDB flats foster a sense of communal living through their utilities and facilities, which are all conveniently located within walking distance, as well as their common areas, which are used to promote activities in the surrounding neighborhood.

Speaking of which, HDB owners Lauren and Lloyd drew the attention of many because of their art gallery-looking flat, which is what they refer to as “a self-designed home.” The couple lives with a cockatiel bird as their pet, named Nugie.

Lauren is blessed with artistic hands, and she loves to doodle and do commissioned illustrations. You can check out her work via Instagram (@dirtydoodies). Lloyd, on the other hand, is a pro when it comes to tech-related matters.

The couple's apartment in Tiong Bahru underwent renovations starting with cement flooring, according to an Instagram post they shared in 2019. They also provided some tips to homeowners considering screeding their house’s floor.

Upon finishing the flat’s construction, they proceed to the interior design process by integrating wall art, indoor plants, aesthetic mirrors, as well as pieces of furniture such as a study table, a set of ceramicware, and more.

Living Room

The flat’s living room emits a serene ambience thanks to its cosy sofa, TV set, and tasteful bookshelves. The owners described this corner as “an endearing sort of mess” filled with various interior decors like empty wine bottles perfect for crafting and wine enthusiasts. You can also see plenty of books, paintings, plants, and vases, to name a few.

Dining Area and Kitchen

The flat’s dining area is one of its most aesthetic spaces and evokes having a feast during the Renaissance era. It is composed of a wooden table and chair set, a ball-like ceiling lamp, and a collection of abstract paintings that resemble a museum gallery. Meanwhile, the solid wood cabinets in the kitchen set the mood for a warm and cosy vibe.

Bedroom

The bedroom is undeniably soothing thanks to its organic and pristine white bedsheets and pillowcases. There are also artworks of floating stairs, terrains, and QR Code-like designs that adorn the walls. In addition, there is a space-saving bedside table with books and a lamp on top.

Toilet

Its toilet is built with a wooden door and a hanging light fixture near the door. Just beyond the doorway leading to the restroom, there is an impressively large and beautiful plant and on the opposite wall are hanging shelves stocked with decorative accents like miniature vases, teacups, books, and picture frames.

Inside, you’ll see a compact washing area complete with an ivory-white sink and a glass arched mirror mounted on the wall. You’ll also love the brass and metallised black faucet from IKEA.

The owners described this space as “a stray, sunlit moment outside a London bookshop.”

Ping Pong Table

The owners are big fans of the racket sport ping pong, so they've outfitted their home with a miniature ping pong table. Apart from its main function, the folding table can also be used as an extra study table, for playing beer pong, or for laying out buffet spreads.
