The COVID-19 pandemic and the recent war between Russia and Ukraine took the world by storm, but these global catastrophes didn’t stop Asia-Pacific's (APAC) micro and medium-sized companies from stepping up their game. Although shifting and adapting to the new normal is not a walk in the park, several APAC businesses in industries such as healthcare, food and beverages, entertainment, agriculture, home and living, and consumer electronics proved they can withstand a global crisis.

To honour their resilience, Forbes Asia announced on Wednesday, Aug. 10, its “Best Under a Billion List.” According to the news outlet, this year’s list recognises 200 top-performing APAC companies which were selected from a pool of 20,000 publicly registered businesses with sales between USD$10,000 and USD$1 billion.

“The list features companies from across the region, spanning industries such as semiconductors, software and services, pharmaceuticals, healthcare and manufacturing,” it said in a press release.

Forbes Asia also noted that 73 countries from the previous year returned to the unranked list, including Taiwan’s Aspeed Technology, which has consecutively placed for the last nine years.

Meanwhile, seven Singapore-based companies landed on Forbes Asia’s “Best Under a Billion List.” The Hour Glass, a famous luxury watches retail group that is home to artisanal watchmakers like Rolex, made the cut with US$766 million sales. One-stop strategic integration company UMS Holdings also placed in the list with US$202 million.
