Attention Shrek fans, dust off your ogre ears and mark your calendars — because this swamp is about to get a whole lot livelier. "Shrek the Musical" is heading to the Philippines for a larger-than-life run from October to December 2025 at Newport World Resorts in Pasay City.
Produced by Full House Theater Company, this rendition promises to be more than just a rehash of the Broadway hit. With its Filipino creative team, expect nuanced performances, culturally resonant humor, and a fresh spin on familiar characters.
Based on the beloved 2001 DreamWorks film and William Steig’s children’s book, this production is set to bring the cheeky and heartwarming fairy tale to life with a distinctly local flair.

Additionally, aspiring ogres, princesses, and sassy sidekicks can audition for key roles and the ensemble, as an open casting call is set to take place on Mar. 29, 2025 at Hilton Manila. Registration runs from 9 AM to 12 PM, with auditions taking place from 1 PM to 5 PM.
Hopefuls should come prepared with 32 bars of a song from their favorite musical as well as bring their latest CV, 3R-sized headshot, and full-body shot. Strong vocals are a must, while certain roles require dance skills.
Rehearsals are set to begin on Aug. 18, giving the cast ample time to perfect the show’s toe-tapping musical numbers.
The show will be helmed by Michael Williams, with Cara Barredo as assistant director. Musical staging is led by Dexter Santos, choreography by Stephen Viñas, and music direction by Rony Fortich — an all-star creative team poised to deliver a dazzling spectacle packed with humor, heart, and a touch of Filipino magic.
