Taxi Fares in Bangkok Increase With Starting Rate of THB40

In not-so-good news for commuters, the Thai government began increasing taxi fares in Bangkok on Monday, Jan. 16.

The new starting rate for seven-seater taxis is THB40 for the first kilometre, while fares for regular-sized vehicles remain at THB35.

If the distance exceeds more than one kilometre, additional fees will be collected.

Here are the new taxi rates as published in the Royal Thai Government Gazette:

  • THB40 for the first kilometre
  • THB6.50 for the second to 10th kilometre
  • THB7 for the 10th-20th kilometre
  • THB8 for the 20th-40th kilometre
  • THB8.50 for the 40th-60th kilometre
  • THB9 for the 60th-80th kilometre
  • THB10.50 for the 80th kilometre and up

As per the Department of Land Transport (DLT), taxis need to undergo inspection before drivers can start imposing new fares.

Travellers can expect a gradual increase in taxi fares in the coming weeks.
