Three Thai Tycoons Among World's 150 Richest People in 2023 – Forbes
Twenty-eight Thais made it to the World's Billionaires List this 2023, which was released by Forbes on the first week of April. Three of these billionaires, namely tycoons Dhanin Chearavanont, Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi, and Sarath Ratanavadi were among the world's 150 richest people.
Dhanin and Charoen are neck and neck as they ranked 116th and 118th on the list, with net worths of US$14.9 billion and US$14.8 billion, respectively.
The alcohol and real estate Charoen, who is 78 years old, is the son of a Bangkok street vendor. He is most known for Thai Beverage, the largest brewer in the kingdom, and Asset World Corp, as well as having assets in Singapore beverage and property company Fraser & Neave, among others.
The 83-year-old Dhanin, on the other hand, is senior chairman of Charoen Pokphand, regarded as one of the biggest producers of animal feed and livestock in the world.
Sarath, 57 years old, ranked 141st with a net worth of US$12.3 billion. He is the CEO of Gulf Energy Development, one of the country's major power producers. He also has stakes in telco giant InTouch Holdings and its wireless arm, Advanced Info Service (AIS), since 2021.
Bernard Arnault, known for overseeing the LVMH empire that has 75 fashion and cosmetics brands under its belt, including Louis Vuitton, emerged as the number one richest person on the list with a net worth of US$211 billion. Elon Musk, cofounder of Tesla and SpaceX, followed behind, with a net worth of US$180 billion.
Amazon's Jeff Bezos (US$114 billion), Oracle's Larry Ellison (US$107 billion), and Warren Buffett (US$106 billion) took the third, fourth, and fifth spots, respectively.
