Vira Care, the Thai Femtech Brand Advancing Holistic Women's Health

Femtech, short for female and technology, pertains to services, products, and tools that utilise technology to address gaps and problems in women's health and well-being.
According to fermata, a women's health-focused startup in Tokyo and Singapore that's regarded as the first femtech marketplace, there are 71 FemTech companies in Southeast Asia thus far. Data from its Southeast Asia Femtech Market Map 2022 has shown that in Thailand, there are only six femtech companies. One of these is Vira Care, which is categorised under period health. This category is considered the leading market in the region, with Malaysia and Thailand "[holding] the largest market share for period companies selling organic tampons, organic and reusable sanitary pads, and menstrual cups."
Vira Care was founded by Viracha "Pear" Poolvaraluk. It is a platform that offers evidence-based education on period health and a safe space to encourage women towards the path of self-discovery and empowerment. It is also a shop that offers leakproof underwear by Proof, a United States brand committed to creating smart underwear to replace disposable pads and tampons. The leakproof underwear varies in type and design, depending on one's flow. You can shop Vira's Period Care products here.
Vira Care believes in "raising the standard for intimate care," batting for transparency when it comes to wht goes on and in one's body. As a lot of heath products for women in Thailand are riddled with chemicals that can upset one's bodily functions, Vira Care has published The Veto List, which compiles ingredients that are not found in Vira Care's products. These include formaldehyde, fragrance and pefumes, talc, parabens, phthalates, synthetic dyes, dioxins and furans, and more. You can view the Veto List here.
Vira Care also offers a repository of holistic women's health education through The Body Knowledge. In this resource, women can learn about a slew of topics concerning their bodies, from period health, family planning, fertility, pregnancy, and intimacy and relationships to motherhood, sexual wellness, mental health, and menopause.
For 2022 alone, Vira Care was able to accomplish so much, starting with organising The Body Wisdom Weekend, where it normalised conversations about periods, sex, and menopause and busted myths with medical experts. It also collaborated with inspiring female founders, offered new femtech products beyond periods, held its first Period Pajama Party, as well as hosted weekend markets and tons of workshops.
In May, Vira Care has held workshops on sex education, period health, and body literacy.
