Carrie Lam Joins Virtual Conference on Urban Forestry in Hong Kong

The Hong Kong 2022 International Urban Forestry Conference was conducted last March 2, according to a government-run news portal. Led by industry professionals and specialists, the online conference addressed the best practices on urban forestry management in line with the experts’ experiences.

The two-day event is part of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s 25th anniversary celebration upon its establishment. Chief Executive Carrie Lam gave an opening speech and emphasised the government’s efforts on “developing arboriculture and horticulture talent to ensure effective management of its urban forest.”

The Urban Forestry Support Fund worth US$26 million (HK$203 million) has been allocated to support the Study Sponsorship Scheme and Trainee Programme, Lam said. Individuals studying tree management will receive financial aid, as well as a monthly allowance, to help them with their on-the-job training requirements.

To date, there are 430 students enrolled under the study scheme and almost 100 graduates undergoing training in private companies and government departments, she added.
