COVID-19 Measures for Rugby Sevens Being Finalised

With the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens scheduled for a return on Nov. 4 to 6 after a two-year postponement, Sports Commissioner Yeung Tak-keung has reportedly been in talks with the Rugby Union to confirm the final details regarding anti-epidemic measures of the event.

Yeung announced on Wednesday that inbound players competing in the Rugby Sevens will be allowed to train during their quarantine period so long as they can show negative test results. Authorities have been coordinating a bubble arrangement that allows international players and officials to enter a “closed-loop system” that transports them from their mandatory hotel quarantine to necessary designated venues.

According to current measures, spectators to the Rugby Sevens will not have to get tested for coronavirus before entering the stadium. At the moment, sporting venues are limited to 80% capacity and a maximum of 500 visitors, as per authorities’ guidelines issued last week.

They will, however, need to leave their vaccination details and a record of entry by scanning on their LeaveHomeSafe app, in addition to keeping their face masks on while at the location. Those cheering on the players in the stands will be allowed to drink but not eat.
