Woman Dies From Injuries in Central Nightlife Car Crash

Police on the weekend said that one of the women injured on Friday evening’s car crash at the junction of Peel Street and Staunton Street in Central has died from her injuries.

The 27-year-old French national was caught under a vehicle parked on Peel Street that rolled backwards after the driver and passenger had just got out.

The car slammed into a lamppost on Staunton Street and injured four females and four males in the process.

The Frenchwoman was caught underneath the vehicle and dragged along the street. She sustained bone features in her left hand and critical head injuries, and died at Queen Mary Hospital in Pok Fu Lam at 6:35 PM on Saturday (Dec. 13).

The driver has now been charged in connection with the accident that led to the death of the Frenchwoman and injured seven;, one is in critical condition, and one other is stable, with both currently in hospital.

The driver is set to appear at Eastern Magistrates’ Court today with a charge of dangerous driving causing death.

She was said to have parked the white Nissan vehicle on a slope in Lan Kwai Foung, however, the vehicle’s handbrake was not fully engaged.

CCTV footage around the area showed that she and her employer exited out of the vehicle. Soon after, the vehicle reversed at high speed down Peel Street and eventually crashed into a bar.
