Overpriced or Worth It? Here are 4 Reasons Why Apple Products are Expensive

Gadgets and devices evolve in a blink of an eye. Electronic companies sprout like mushrooms but only those competitive enough can pull it off in the industry.

One of the groundbreaking tech companies is Apple Inc., the tech giant behind the world’s popular smartphones, laptops, and smartwatches.

History of Apple Inc.

It was in 1976 when college dropouts Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak founded Apple Computers, Inc. The two Steves wanted to change the technology landscape by providing smaller and user-friendly computers that consumers can carry to their homes or offices.

Jobs and Wozniak have had their fair share of challenges and eventually, they made an increase in sales during 1980, the same year the company went public and pioneered innovative products.

At present, the company continues to dominate the computer industry with more advanced technology. However, there are assumptions that Apple products are expensive and that their hefty price tags are only a status symbol. To give more perspective, here are four reasons that explain the expensive rate of Apple technology.

    Apple is a Premium Brand

The company’s target markets are professionals in the business industry or medium- to high-income individuals. There is a saying that goes “Once an Apple user, always an Apple user.” This can be attributed to the brand’s efforts to give a top-notch customer experience. That’s why the brand focuses more on its loyal consumers rather than the hardware per se.

The strategy to strengthen its customer loyalty drives sales and allows the company to launch more products like the Apple Watch, Air Pods, and Apple Music.

Apple Developed its Own Operating System (OS) From Scratch

An operating system (OS) is the software used to run computer hardware, tools, and other applications. Unlike before when computers do not have an OS, every device requires an entire program (code and hardware connections) before it could perform. Hence, the birth of OS helped simplify complex operations.

iPhones are supported with company-owned software which is quite costly to develop from scratch. This is one of the main reasons why Apple products are expensive compared to Android phones.

The company manages everything exclusively based on Apple users’ demands. As a matter of fact, the Mac OS is built like a personal computer that complements only the products’ hardware that’s why it’s not legal to install it aside from Apple products.

    Apple has World-Class Components

As we all know, Apple products are expensive because their systems are optimized, which means everything can be interconnected with each other. This is designed to allow data synchronization and seamless compatibility.

Each device also has an iCloud, which adds another layer of protection against online theft and hacking. It automatically locks the device when stolen and you can only unlock it using your iCloud ID and password.

Apple Pays a Lot for its Marketing

Marketing is vital to businesses, whether big or small, to create a strong reputation. Here are some ways how Apple has established a successful and effective branding through marketing.

    • Apple Store features exquisite and royal-like shops. They mostly carry prestigious addresses right in the heart of popular states or cities to appeal to their high-end customers.
    • The company practices “simplicity” when it comes to its product ads and marketing copies. Its purpose is to avoid overwhelming the potential buyers with long product descriptions and unnecessary special effects.
    • Apple knows how to use mystery. This helps create buzz and get people talking about the product to be launched.
