Hong Kong Rugby 7s Team to Play France, Britain, Uruguay at 2023 Tournament

Hong Kong men’s rugby sevens team will face France, Great Britain and Uruguay in the HSBC World Rugby Men’s Seven Series at the Hong Kong Stadium from Mar. 31 to Apr. 2.

Revealed on a ceremony at the Fullerton Hotel in Ocean Park, seeds were picked for the four men’s pools at the three-day tournament, with Argentina, France, Australia and Ireland top in each pool. 16 teams will face each other in the men’s tournament and 12 women’s teams.

France will face off with the Great Britain, Uruguay and Hong Kong team in the opening stages. The HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series will see Hong Kong playing against New Zealand, Canada and Great Britain for the three-day competition.

“It will be another tough competition, but it is fantastic for us to be part of it. It was a great event last November, the atmosphere in the stadium was brilliant, and this is the next step,” said Hong Kong, China sevens coach Paul John.

"Performance-wise we just want to show that we can keep improving. It is a big occasion. Last time we rose to the occasion, and showed what we are capable of, we just need to keep improving on that performance.”

Pool A for the men’s series of the group will see leading team Argentina pit off against Fiji, Samoa, and Canada. Pool B hosts France, Great Britain, Uruguay, and Hong Kong. Pool C holds Australia, USA, Spain, and Japan. Pool D includes Ireland, New Zealand, Kenya and South Africa.

The women’s series pool A includes New Zealand, Canada, Great Britain, and Hong Kong. Pool B hosts Australia, Fiji, Ireland, and Brazil. Pool C includes USA, France, Japan, and Spain.
