“The Other Side of the Sea” is Jiaxi Han’s first solo exhibition in Hong Kong, running from March 11-23, 2025, at Anita Chan Lai-ling Gallery. The exhibition explores the historical and cultural narratives embedded in patterns, bridging Eastern and Western cultures through contemporary art.
Jiaxi Han, a visual artist of Buyi ethnicity, reinterprets motifs from Swiss textiles, Hong Kong’s architectural ornamentation, and global trade histories using the traditional craft of batik. Her work highlights the connections between craftsmanship, migration, and colonial legacies, revealing patterns as silent witnesses to cultural exchange.
The exhibition features hand-drawn batik textiles and fabrics inspired by Swiss paisley designs, each piece telling layered stories of tradition, adaptation, and reinvention.
Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the fusion of traditional batik and contemporary themes. The opening reception will be held on March 11, 2025, from 5 PM to 8 PM.
